PAUSE OF IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION
Effective Wednesday, Nov. 18, Unit 5 is making the difficult decision to transition to remote learning for ALL students. Students will not be in attendance on Wednesday, Nov. 18 to allow teachers and staff time to prepare for this change. At this time a pause to in-person instruction will be in place until Monday, Dec. 7.
In the past two weeks we’ve had 63+ student positive COVID cases and 28+ staff positive COVID cases. In addition, we had 373+ students who were newly quarantined as a result of being a close contact, in addition to 145+ staff members. When we started this process, we stated that we needed to be in a phase for 10 days before making a change. Today the IDPH released metrics for last week, November 1-7. These metrics fall within Stage 1 of our Return to School Plan, which indicates that all students would be remote. We have closely monitored this week’s metrics and it is clear that they have not improved. We now have more than 10 consecutive days of data that no longer supports us remaining in hybrid instruction. Here is a link to local and district metrics. Since we are in Stage 1, this will also include a pause of all activities & athletics.
We hope to be able to return to hybrid learning very soon but this will depend on the status of COVID-19 and the guidance we receive from state and local officials.
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCESWith the switch to hybrid this month, a decision was made to reschedule Parent Teacher Teacher Conferences to Friday, Jan. 22, 2021. Students will not attend school that day.As a result of this change, students WILL be in session on Friday, Oct. 23.Also, just a reminder that the State of Illinois is celebrating Election Day as a state holiday. Schools will be closed that day. Here is a link to the new calendar. https://www.unit5.org/cms/lib/
