Remote Learning at West for Parents
Parent Email 3/31/2020
#OneBigTeam - Normal West High School
We are here for you. Teachers, Counselors, Administrators, and our support staff are all working together to help support students and parents. Please email or call for help. You will not reach anyone when you call, but staff members will get the message you leave. Classroom questions should be directed to the teacher first, while school-wide questions can go to an administrator. All phone and email information is on our website www.unit5.org/ncwhs. You can always call the main school number at 309-557-4402 to leave a message and those messages will be routed to the proper person.
With having over 100 teachers, you will see some variety in how remote learning is done. Some teachers will be connecting with their students using the adjusted bell schedule we created, while others will have assignments posted that can be done anytime. Staff will be available daily from 8:45 am to 1:45 pm to connect with students or to answer questions. Remember, Understanding and Flexibility are two key qualities that we must have during this time. Although teachers are available from 8:45 am to 1:45 pm, their response to you may not be immediate.
What can you do as a parent?
Support your child in their learning by:
- Encouraging adherence to all virtual/remote learning assignments.
- Designating a place where your child can work independently and with few distractions.
- Asking your child about his/her assignments to further engage them in the learning.
- Checking with your child to ensure assignments are completed by due dates.
- Reminding your child to email his/her teacher if they have any questions or need support in their learning.
- Regularly checking the district & school website for important information and updates
- Please reach out to the teachers, counselors and principals with any questions and concerns--we are here to support you!
Food Service during Remote Learning (District Flyer)

We will update the schedule each week. We will have three centralized locations open daily from 9-11 am:
- Cedar Ridge Elementary, 2808 Breezewood Blvd., Bloomington
- Kingsley Junior High, 303 Kingsley St., Normal
- Sugar Creek Elementary, 200 N Towanda Ave, Normal
Technology Support - Students or Parents can email the following email address with questions regarding the district’s technology. email@example.com A district technologist will be on site at the south end of Kingsley Junior High from 9-11am during the food distribution times to swap out a device. Parents/students do not need to exit the car, someone will approach the vehicle to make the Chromebook exchange.
WEST = Where Everyone Succeeds Together
We will work to succeed through all of this together as is the tradition of Normal West High School. Thanks for all of your support!!!
Parent Phone Message 3/29/2020
Hello Wildcat Families - This is Principal Dave Johnson with a short update on Remote Learning that will start on Tuesday, March 31st. The education of your children is a high priority for us at Normal West, but we also need to acknowledge that their health and safety is the number one priority now for all of us. The governor's stay at home order must be followed and nothing we do as a school should cause anyone to break this rule.
Normal West students will receive an email from each of their teachers by 8:45 am on Tuesday, March 31st with information on how to begin remote learning in each class. From this point, students should follow the teacher’s directions and engage in the lessons provided for them. Questions about the remote learning lessons should be directed to each teacher. School-wide information will be sent by email, posted in Infinite Campus, and posted on our website starting on Monday.
Understanding and flexibility are two words I repeated over and over to the teachers about remote learning. This situation in our society and providing education in this fashion are new for all of us and we all need to have great understanding and flexibility for each other.
If you cannot find an answer in the information being sent out by the district or by teachers, please feel free to reach out to me by email or phone. I will be working from home as well, but we are working to set up a voicemail on the main school number 309-557-4402.
Please stay safe and remember it’s a great day to be a Wildcat!
