Monday, October 2nd

Juniors and seniors, just a reminder to sign up for college rep visits on Schoolinks. Visiting this week will be Iowa State University, North Park University, Grace College and Cedarville College.

Chess Club begins on Tuesday, Oct 3rd! Our first practice will take place after school in Room 225. Please join us for information about Chess Club and how you can participate.

PRIDE Club will meet this Thursday, October 5th, from 3:30 to 4:30 in room 36. PRIDE Club is a club for LGBTQ+ students and allies to gather and support one another. If you have any questions, contact Mr. Ruyle.

The speech team is looking for hardworking and passionate new members. Our pre-audition meeting will be this Friday, October 6th after school in Room 32. Please attend this meeting to get audition materials and sign up for an audition time. Auditions will be held on Friday, October 13th from 3:30-7 in Room 32. If you can not attend one of these dates but would still like to audition, please contact henrike@unit5.org or any active speech team member.

This week's senior of the week is Karen Espinosa. Karen's favorite school lunch is chicken tenders; favorite teacher is Mrs. Baldwin; favorite TV show is Gossip Girl. Karen plans to go to college and study psychology. Something you may not have known about Karen is that she likes to read in her free time.

Monday, September 25th

Juniors and seniors, just a reminder to sign up for college rep visits on Schoolinks. Visiting this week will be University of Dayton, McKendree University, North Central College and Illinois College.

The FCA will be sponsoring “See You at the Pole” this Wednesday, September 27th. We'll meet around the flagpole in the front of the school starting at 7:45 a.m. The FCA will then host a breakfast for all participants in room 16 immediately after the event. All are welcome to attend.

Join Spanish Club for our first meeting this Wednesday, September 27th, from 3:30-4:30 in the Senior Cafeteria! We will celebrate Spanish Heritage Month with trivia, prizes, and treats! Please look at the flyers posted in your Spanish classrooms for more information, or contact Ms. Nutter. We hope to see you there!!! 

Do you play a Wind instrument, Guitar, Bass, Piano, or Drum set? Are you interested in joining one of the Jazz Bands here at NCHS?  We will be having an informational meeting this Wednesday, September 27th from 3:30pm-4:15pm in Room 54, the Band Room.  See Mr. Carter or the band’s website for more information.

This Thursday, Music Tech Club will meet in Room 14 from 3:35 PM to 5 PM. This week we are hosting Josh Appel, guitarist and songwriter of metal band Burden of the Sky, to discuss his writing and production process. Everyone is welcome!

Attention Ironmen JV Volleyball Fans:  Support your junior varsity girls’ volleyball team as they compete in the JV Intercity volleyball tournament this Saturday at NCHS.  The tournament is in round-robin format starting at 8:30 am. Admission is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students and is good for the entire day - no Student Activity Passes or Unit 5 Family Passes will be accepted since this is an Intercity tournament. Let’s Go Lady Iron!

This week's senior of the week is Destiny Stewart. Destiny's favorite school lunch is soft tacos; favorite teacher is Ms. Nutter; favorite TV show 911 Lone Star. Destiny plans to attend Heartland next fall and work with small children. Something you may not have known about Destiny is that she values family above all else and that her mom is her best friend.

Are you interested in learning about other cultures? If so, then join German club in the IMC after school this Tuesday for a candy-filled, German beginning-of-school craft. You don't need to speak any German to join the fun! Contact Frau Schnabel or Frau Moyer with any questions.

Social Studies Club will have its next meeting this Thursday after school in Room 8. New members are welcome. Please see Mr. Lawler if you have any questions.

Student Council and the American Red Cross Club are partnering to sell leis to raise funds for Hawaii’s wildfire relief. Leis will be sold for one dollar during lunch hours this week. Each dollar you spend gives you a chance to win gift cards, t-shirts and spirit items. Winners will be announced at the pep rally.  You can also wear the leis to the homecoming game this Friday.

Hey there, Ironmen!  Are you ready to turn our hallways into a masterpiece and win big?  Listen up because we've got an exciting contest that's going to blow your mind! Each vote costs just $1, or you can grab a fantastic deal - 6 votes for just $5! That's right, your voice is your vote, and you can stack them high! The winning class? They're not just taking home the glory and bragging rights; the winning class is pocketing a fabulous cash prize! Oh, and one more thing! Friday night's homecoming game is coming up, and you don't want to miss out on the action. Stop by to pick up some awesome eye black and show your Ironman spirit at Friday's game! Votes and eye black will be available during all lunch hours at the Freshman Class Board table!

Homecoming spirit week continues tomorrow with Barbie vs. Oppenheimer day, Wednesday is color day by grade…Freshmen wear white, Sophomores red, Juniors Green and Seniors blue. Thursday is twin day and Friday is Homecoming spirit day.

Students - if your ID does not have a picture, make sure you stop in the IMC and get your ID with a picture - you will need it to enter the Homecoming Dance.  No ID with picture, no entry.

Attention all mathletes! This year's math team will be running practices right after school on Mondays until 4:30. The first practice is today in Room 244. If you're interested in learning more or have questions about math team, contact Ms. Shoukry.

The South Asian Performing Arts Club will be having their first meeting in room 14 today after school! Don’t worry, you don’t need to dance. Everyone is welcome!

Students: Are you an extreme pen spinner? Can you fold your legs behind your head? Can you talk backwards?---we are looking for talent for our Homecoming Week "Iron's Got Talent" night on September 20th. Auditions are after school today in the auditorium! Please sign up and show us your school spirit. See Mrs. Hawkins in the College & Career Center for more info.

Attention Seniors:  join us for Senior Sunrise tomorrow morning in the bus lane at 6am. Donuts, iced coffee, and hot chocolate will be provided.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be having their first meeting of the year this Thursday, September 14th, at 7:45 a.m. The first meeting will be in Room 16. We'll have a time of food, fun and fellowship. Everyone is welcome to attend!!!

Attention Ironmen Fans:  Support your NCHS Girls’ Swimming & Diving teams when they compete in the Iron Invite this Saturday at the NCHS pool.  Diving events begin at 8:30 am and swimming events begin at 12:00 pm.  The admission price is $3.00 for students and senior citizens and $5.00 for adults and is good for the entire day - no Student Activity Passes or Unit 5 Family passes will be accepted since this is a special event.  Good luck Iron Swimmers & Divers!

Ironmen boys get ready to bump, set, and spike! The Ironmen Volleyball Tournament will take place starting off your homecoming week on Sunday, September 17th. The QR code for sign-ups and further details will be displayed on the screens in the atrium and on the Ironmen FBLA Instagram page. Teams of up to 10 boys from one grade with a limit of 4 teams per grade level can participate. Senior teams are filled up but there are limited spots left for Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior teams! Make sure to sign up soon - spots are First Come, First Served. 

Seniors... Homecoming nominations will take place today from 8:30 until the end of 6th hour today. Please check your email for a google form that will allow you to select your nominations.

The Homecoming dance is September 23rd with two sessions… one from 6-8 and the other from 8:30 to 10:30 in the East Gym. Tickets are $10 and will be on sale today during lunch for seniors only. Seniors and Juniors can buy tickets during lunch on Wednesday. All other grades can buy tickets Thursday and Friday. Tickets will also be available online through Ticket leap next week. If you wish to bring a non-NCHS student, be sure to complete the Date Request google form. Those forms are due this Friday!

Tuesday, September 5th

Juniors and seniors… just a reminder to sign up for college rep visits on Schoolinks. Southern Illinois University and Grand Canyon University are among some of the colleges that are visiting this week.  

Attention girls interested in basketball--open gyms are starting soon--see Coach Feeney in Room 35 if you have any questions or need an open gym schedule.  

The September drama club meeting is today after school in the auditorium.  We will talk about Festival and tech crews for the fall play.  Everyone is welcome!

I-Club will meet tomorrow, September 6, at 7:50am in the senior cafeteria. I-Club this Wednesday morning!  

Not in our school will be having its first meeting tomorrow after school in room 15. Come find out what our plans are for this school year.

The Environmental club will have its first meeting tomorrow after school in room 237.  If you want to learn more about environmental issues and what you can do, please join us!

HOSA, our health occupations club here at NCHS, will be having our first meeting after school this Thursday, September 7th. Any student who might be interested should stop by room 231 on Thursday at 4pm. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Swanson or Mrs. Pufahl.

Ironmen Varsity Football fans:  Due to the large crowd anticipated for Friday’s football game at Normal West, early ticket sales will be held in the Athletic Director’s office from 8:30 am until 3:30 pm on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.  If you have a Student Activity Pass on your current ID, you will be admitted without paying – Student Activity Passes are accepted at both Unit 5 High Schools. If not, buy your ticket early at the regular student admission price of $3.00 and avoid waiting in line.  Let your parents know that they can buy tickets ahead of time as well.  Let’s Go Iron!

Attention all freshmen and students who are interested in joining FBLA! Make sure to mark your calendars for the new member meeting tomorrow,  August 29th, from 6-8 p.m. in the cafeteria. We are looking forward to seeing you there and starting off a great FBLA year!

EKAL Helping Hands is once again celebrating Raksha Bandhan, the day of universal brotherhood and inclusivity. We will be celebrating in the IMC this Wednesday, August 30th, from 4-4:30. We will have snacks afterwards! Checkout the EKAL Helping Hands instagram page for the link to the evite. We hope to see you all there!

Ironmen Soccer Fans:  Cheer on the Varsity Boys’ Soccer team when they play two of their top rivals in the Intercity Tournament at home this weekend - Saturday at 10:00 am versus Normal West and Labor Day Monday at 4:30 pm versus Bloomington. Adult admission is $5.00 and student admission is $3.00 for each game – no student activity passes or Unit 5 family passes will be accepted since these games are part of the Intercity tournament.  Good luck Iron Soccer!

Monday, August 21st

If you are a student that has any type of interest in the field of business, wants to learn more about how to be successful in a professional setting, or wants to help out charitable organizations and have a fun time with your friends, consider joining FBLA, one of Normal Community’s most successful organizations! For returning members, we will be meeting from 6-8 tomorrow, August 22nd, in the cafeteria. The theme for our opening meeting will be pajamas, so make sure to feel at home and arrive in your PJs! For new members, we will be meeting from 6-8 next Tuesday, August 29th, in the cafeteria. We look forward to seeing you there!

Attention students, want a quieter place to enjoy your lunch? We are bringing back We Dine. 4A lunch can dine in room 19, 4D lunch can dine in room 39, 5th hour lunch can dine in room 14 and 6th hour lunch can dine in room 35.  Bring your lunch and enjoy some down time.

Do you play video games? Are you searching for a competitive outlet and supportive community? Join Unit 5 e-Sports! Through the IHSA and IHSEA, we have competitive seasons for games such as League of Legends, Fortnite, Super Smash Brothers, Call of Duty, Valorant, and many more! Strategy Club is back! Meeting Mondays after school in the cafeteria, students are invited to get together to play tabletop and card games in an environment that is welcoming and accepting. Contact Mr. Neiburger if you have questions, otherwise we hope to see you there.
