Monday, May 15th
Textbook and laptop turn-in is coming up fast! Please follow the directions of your classroom teachers on when and how to turn in your textbooks. Laptops WITH chargers may be turned in at the IMC when you are completely finished using them. All students, even those attending summer school, must turn in their chromebooks. If you still have textbooks in your possession after all of your final exams are finished, it is your responsibility to return them to the IMC before leaving the building for the summer. Please see Ms. Fox Anvick or Mrs. Crabill in the IMC with any questions.
Mu Alpha Theta Juniors and Seniors, we will meet tomorrow, May 16th, in the Fishbowl before school at 8:15 for a yearbook photo. Hope to see you there!

Attention Lady Iron Soccer Fans: Support your varsity girls’ soccer team when they compete in IHSA regional play Wednesday at 4:30 pm vs. Decatur Eisenhower at the NCHS Soccer Field. Admission is $5.00 per person - no Unit 5 Family Passes or NCHS Student Activity Passes will be accepted since this is an IHSA playoff game. Cheer on the soccer team as they attempt to advance to the regional championship game on either Friday night or Saturday morning! Let’s Go Lady Iron!
This week's senior of the week is Sophia Feeney. Sophia's favorite school lunch is the soft shell taco, favorite teacher is Mr. Roller; favorite TV show is Ted Lasso. Sophia plans to attend Illinois Wesleyan university in the fall. Something you may not have known about Sophia is that she has gone to the Lake of the Ozarks every year since she was born.

The annual IMC Used Book Sale is beginning TODAY! Stop by the IMC to get some great deals on gently used books that you can take home to keep! Hardcover books will be sold for $1, and paperbacks will be 50 cents. All proceeds from the Used Book Sale will benefit the IMC. The sale will take place all this week, but the books go quick! Be sure to stop by!

Caroline plans to attend Heartland Community College in the fall and later pursue a degree in psychology. Something you may not have known about Caroline is that she would like to study art therapy.

Tomorrow, we are hosting Oldest Horizons (an instrumental duo featuring Mr. King and horn player Tyler Walls) to discuss the art of songwriting. Topics will include lyricism, music creation, and production. Everyone is welcome!

Sign up for a special Sociology Lunch and Learn, where you can paint natural disaster masks in the IMC this Thursday and Friday during the lunch hours. Students are asked to sign up before the event. Flyers to sign up are located on all the bulletin boards in the school, as well as in Mr. Robinson's class in room 14. Sign-ups will end this Wednesday the 26th.
This week's senior of the week is Killian Boyd. Killian's favorite school lunch is the chicken burrito bowl; ALL teachers are his favorite because it would be like picking a favorite child; favorite movie is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Killian plans to attend Mizzou and major in elementary education. Something you may not have known about Killian is that he spends 12-13 hours at school everyday with after school rehearsals.

There will be a Mental Health Awareness Bake Sale today and tomorrow during all the lunch hours. All proceeds will be donated to INtegRIty Counseling and to a NCHS Mental Health Awareness Mural to be painted this semester and next semester. Questions? The first session today will be led by Grill Billyenz, a hip-hop artist, and will include lyricism, music creation, and production. NEXT TUESDAY, we will have our second session led by Horn player Tyler Walls and our very own Mr. King, who will discuss songwriting and production. Everyone is welcome! We hope to see you there!

Don't miss the NCHS musical, "The Lightning Thief," this Thursday through Sunday! Based on the book series that you may have read in junior high, this musical follows the story of Percy Jackson, a demigod who is the prime suspect in the theft of Zeus's lightning bolt. Join him and his trusty friends as they go on a hero's quest to stop a war between the gods. Shows are Thursday through Saturday at 7:00 pm, and Saturday and Sunday matinee shows at 2:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased by scanning the QR codes on the posters throughout the school, or by purchasing at the door. Hope to see you there!
Clinics and Auditions for the Normal Color Guard are coming up! Color Guard is a visual art form where flags and movement are choreographed to music. During the summer and fall season, the color guard performs as a part of the state champion Normal Marching Band. Color guard members are not required to have prior experience or training. Any student who will attend NCHS next year is eligible to try out. Clinics are Saturday, April 22, from 9:00 to noon at NCHS. They continue at Normal West on the following Tuesday and Thursday, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Visit normalmb.org for details. We hope to see you there!
The Environmental club is sponsoring a dress up spirit week this week leading up to Earth Day this Saturday, April 22. Show your love for Mother Earth and participate!

Freshmen wear white for wind. Sophomores wear cool colors for water. Juniors wear warm colors for solar and seniors wear earth tones for geothermal. Tomorrow is Fauna day so wear your favorite Floral or Animal print! Wednesday is Hippie day so wear your favorite Tie-dye or Hippie outfit! Thursday is thrifted day so wear your favorite Thrifted Outfit and keep those clothes out of a landfill! Friday, wear green to celebrate Earth day on Saturday.

Juniors: Nominations are going to be opened today for your Prom Court. All nominations for juniors must be made by juniors by this Friday, April 14th, at 3:30. Prom Court will then be announced early the week of April 17. Nominations will be through a Google Form located in the Class of 2024 Google Classroom.
Juniors and Seniors: Get your prom tickets NOW online. See your Google Classrooms or scan the QR codes on all the posters: Tickets are $20 until April 20th! That's correct...20 by the 20th! Ticket sales WILL close on Friday, April 21st. Friday, the 21st, is the only day tickets will be sold “in person" over the lunch hours. If your date does not attend NCHS, you MUST fill out a Date Request Form.

Congratulations to the Normal Community High School Wind Ensemble on an excellent performance at the Chicago International Music Festival! They performed on the Armour Stage in Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center, home of the world-renowned Chicago Symphony. As a part of the festival, NCHS musicians also had the opportunity to work with festival faculty and partake in parts of the city. Way to go, Ironmen!

Ironmen Soccer Fans: Cheer on the Varsity Girls’ Soccer team when they play two rivals in the Intercity Tournament at home over the next two weeks – this Tuesday, March 21 at 4:30 pm versus Central Catholic and Saturday, April 1 at 10:00 am versus U-High. Adult admission is $5.00 and student admission is $3.00 for each game – no Student Activity Passes or Unit 5 Family Passes will be accepted since these games are part of the Intercity tournament. Shakespeare Shorts auditions are Wednesday, Thursday, and callbacks Friday this week. These student directed shows are the final projects of the Advanced Acting and Directing class. Everyone is welcome.
The 96th Annual McLean County Amateur Art Exhibition will open this Friday, March 10th. Several NCHS students have had their artwork selected to be displayed in the art show. The art pieces will be on display until April 20th. Please congratulate: Alex Clouse, Reese Dalton, Taylor Hartley, Madelynne Hoover, Shreya Mokashi, and Abbey Rademacher.

Congratulations to senior Tianna Bond for her Art piece called “Pieces of Me” being selected as the 3rd place winner in the teen category of the 2023 Juried Art Exhibition for Black Creativity! Tianna’s art piece was chosen out of over 1,000 submissions. “Pieces of Me” will be displayed at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago! Congratulations Tianna!

Auditions for the spring musical The Lightning Thief will be held today through Wednesday, Feb 8. This fun show, inspired by the Percy Jackson book series, has a great rock music-inspired score and includes roles for Half Bloods, Greek Gods, and monsters! Anyone interested in auditioning should join the musical Google Classroom site, which has a link found on the bulletin board in the music hallway between rooms 48 & 50. We want to extend a big thank you to everyone who signed up for THE Ironman. However, due to the demand of those who voted, only the top 2 from each grade level excluding seniors who would have six competitors were selected- the results are as follows: The two freshmen with the most votes are: Elijah Conda and Tommy Wade. We only had one sophomore and one junior who will be competing and they are: Andrew Wyrick (sophomore) and Parker Williams (junior). And now for our seniors with the most votes: Krishiv Sreejith, Shrikar Chennuru, Will Naour, Nick Gardner, Micah Hubble and Brady Kozlen. Congratulations to everyone! We look forward to seeing your amazing talents and the person who will be the winner of the Ironman title.

The After-School Forge will start up again this Wednesday, February 1st, from 3:45-5:00. Come find a place to study and make up assessments with help from peer tutors and teachers. The After-School Forge will then be open most Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for the rest of the semester. There is also a bus that can take you home at 5:15. Take advantage of this great resource!
The South Asian Performing Arts club will be having a bake sale on the 14th and the 15th of February during the lunch hours. Auditions for the spring musical The Lightning Thief will be held next Monday through Wednesday, Feb. 6-8. This fun show, inspired by the Percy Jackson book series, has a great rock music-inspired score and includes roles for Half Bloods, Greek Gods, and monsters! Anyone interested in auditioning should join the musical Google Classroom site, which has a link found on the bulletin board in the music hallway between rooms 48 & 50. BSU is excited to kick off Black History Month 2023! This Wednesday, we are selling BSU spirit wear in the mornings until February 17th! Please stop and get your spirit wear! Congratulations to BJ Dumas on qualifying for the IHSA Boys Bowling State Tournament this weekend!
It’s important to be kind to others, but it’s equally important to be kind to our bodies. Citing a lack of healthy and allergy-free food insecurity awareness in our community, our NCHS National Honors Society has partnered with Bloomington High School’s National Honors Society, NCHS HOSA, and NCHS FBLA to host a community-wide Health Conscious Food Drive. The proceeds will be donated to community nonprofits in need such as the Baby Fold, Western Avenue, and Little Free Pantry. We will have a collection box right outside the IMC today through February 10th. So be sure to stop by and donate what you can! Attention boys in all grade levels - do you have a special talent? 2 boys from freshman, sophomore and junior classes, and 4 senior boys will be competing in a Miss America style pageant hosted by the Senior Class Board. It’ll include a talent show, interview, catwalk and dance number to see who takes the title of THE Ironman. If you are interested, a sign up form will be posted today till January 27th, and voting for students will take place the following week to decide your 10 contestants. The competition will help raise money for prom with $3 tickets being sold during lunch hours in February, $5 the night of the show. The Iron Man competition will take place on February 28th at 6:30 - hope to see you all there!
