October 12th, 2021

The After-School Forge is now open! The After-School Forge is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:45-5:00, and runs a bus at 5:15 to 16 stops around town if you need transportation home. There is no need to sign up and you can come as often as you like from now until the end of the semester. Just bring your ID and your study materials. Line up outside room 04 at 3:45 starting today!

Juniors & Seniors:  We're already up to week 6 of our college rep visits and only 4 more to go! Today, please welcome Millikin University followed by "Wash U," Tricoci University of Beauty Culture and University of Chicago on Thursday. Sign up in the CCC or the counseling office.

Illinois Math League will meet today from 3:45 to 4:15 in the cafeteria. You must be in the cafeteria by 3:45 to participate. All students in all levels of math are welcome. Hope to see you there.

Seniors:  Tonight, there will be a Financial Aid Completion Workshop in the IMC starting at 6pm. Any students or families needing assistance should attend as Nick, our financial aid rep, will be here to help. Please bring your laptops. 

It's TeenTober!! What's TeenTober, you ask? It's a week celebrating teen reading in the IMC! Be sure to stop by the IMC this week to enjoy crafts, games, and more! Enter drawings to win prizes, and find some great new books! See you in the IMC!

The first Mock Trial meeting will be this Friday, October 15th, after school in room 6. We will meet from 3:40 until about 5. The plan is to go over the basics about what Mock Trial is all about and find out a time (or times) to start meeting regularly to workshop and practice Mock Trial concepts before the case comes out in early November. Please let Mr. Shackley know if you have any questions!

This week's senior of the week is Dax Yosten. Dax's favorite school lunch: spicy chicken tenders; favorite teacher: Mr. Foster; favorite TV show: Friends. Dax plans to attend a 4 year university and major in something STEM related. Something you may not have known about Dax is that he was born in Texas.


October 4th, 2021

Juniors and Seniors:  It's Week 5 of College Rep Visits. Please welcome Elmhurst College, Missouri State University, Butler University, Valparaiso University, Michigan State, Iowa Wesleyan, The University of Arizona, and Northwestern! Another great selection to learn more about. Sign up in the CCC.

Attention students, if you did not have your picture taken at registration, tomorrow Oct. 5th and Wednesday Oct. 6th will be the final days to have your photo taken for the yearbook. A photographer will be in room 52 from 8am to 4pm on both days. No appointment is necessary. Orders can be made online or pick up an order form in the main office.

Attention all mathletes! This year's math team will be running practices right after school on Mondays until 4:30 starting TODAY in Room 244! If you're interested in learning more or have questions about math team, find Mr. Florido or Ms. Shoukry.

Are you interested in gaining hands-on experience in government and learn about the inner workings of legislation? Would you enjoy meeting other students from around the state to discuss current events and generate ideas to help improve Illinois?  Please come to the informational meeting for Youth & Government tomorrow, October 5th at 6:45pm in the cafeteria. It is highly recommended that a parent attend the meeting with you due to the requirements of the program. Please see Mrs. Maurer or Mr. Thomas with any questions!

 Attention Ironmen. Are you interested in movies or animation? Consider joining the Film and Animation club to learn more about media production techniques and to work on your own media projects. We will be having our first introductory meeting this Wednesday, October 6th, from 3:30 to 4:30 in room 65. Contact Mr. Emberson if you have any questions.

Anyone interested in learning stage lighting should come to the auditorium from 6:30 to 7:30 this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We will be doing hands-on work. See Ms. Vernon if you have questions.

Peer Leadership Group is back and looking for students who can lead and want to make NCHS the best it can be. We welcome new members to tutor fellow students in The Forge, mentor students at Grove, and more! We're having an informational meeting for all members this Thursday, October 7 after school in the IMC. If you can't make it, email or talk to Mr. Krogmeier.

The art club will meet in room 40 after school this Thursday, October 7, from 3:35-4:30pm. Come to get information or come and stay for the hour workshop.

Attention Ironmen Fans: Support your NCHS girls’ swimming & diving team when they compete in the Intercity Swim Meet this Thursday at 5:00 pm at the NCHS pool. Student admission is $3.00 and adult admission is $4.00. No Student Activity Passes or Unit 5 Family Passes will be accepted since this is an Intercity Event. Let’s Go Iron!

The IMC Book Club will meet this Friday morning at 7:30 in the IMC. Everyone is welcome at Book Club! See Ms. Fox Anvick with any questions.

This week's senior of the week is Sharanya Rotte. Sharanya's favorite school lunch is the deli sandwich, favorite teacher is Mrs. Baez, favorite TV show is "Grey's Anatomy." Sharanya plans to attend college for pre-med. Something you may not have known about Sharanya is that her older brother also attended NCHS.

Juniors and Seniors: It's Week 4 of College Rep Season. Please welcome Monmouth College and Bradley University on Tuesday and Illinois State University on Thursday in person. University of Tennessee and Illinois Institute of Technology will be joining us Thursday virtually.  Check your google classrooms for more information and sign up in the CCC!

Do you play a wind Instrument,Guitar, Bass, Piano, or Drumset? Are you interested in joining one of the Jazz Bands here at NCHS?  We will be having an informational meeting this Wednesday, September 29th from 3:30pm-4:15pm in Room 54, the Band Room.  See Mr. Carter for more information.

Spanish Club will have our next meeting this Thursday, Sept 30th, from 3:40-4:15 in the MAIN cafeteria.  We will be doing some activities to celebrate and learn about Hispanic Heritage Month.  If you have any questions feel free to contact Ms. Nutter. Hope to see you there!

This week's senior of the week is Yatin Gupta. Yatin's favorite school lunch is the spicy chicken tenders; favorite teacher is Mr. Ross; favorite movie, Inception. Yatin plans to attend a 4 year college. Something you may not have known about Yatin is that he used to live in New York. 

 


September 20th, 2021

Juniors and Seniors: It's week 3 of college rep visits!  Illinois Wesleyan will start things off Tuesday, followed by Lincoln College, and Drake University. On Thursday, there will be virtual visits with the University of South Alabama and University of Wisconsin. Please also welcome the US NAVY today and the US AIR FORCE on Thursday during lunch hours.

There will be a French Club meeting tomorrow, Sept. 21 from 3:30 to 4:30 in room 202. We will be discussing what French Club will be doing in the future as well as doing a French Kahoot.

Happy Homecoming week! Today spirit day is beach day. Tomorrow is twin day. Wednesday is country day and Thursday is Decade day.

Homecoming activities include color wars tonight from 5 till 7 (make sure to get your ticket during lunch in order to play). Battle of the bands at 6:30 on Wednesday and Drive-in movie from 8-10 on Thursday.

This week's senior of the week is Zander Morrison. Zander's favorite teacher is Mr. Murrin; favorite school lunch is spicy chicken tenders; favorite TV series is Outer Banks. Zander plans to move to Georgia and attend a community college before transferring to Georgia or Georgia Tech. Something you may not have known about Zander is that he was a vegetarian for a year.

Attention leaders and future leaders!!  I-Club--the NCHS leadership training club-- meets tomorrow, Tuesday September 14-- in the senior cafeteria starting at 7:45am and ending at 8:15am.  

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be hosting their first meeting of the year on Thursday morning, September 16th at 7:45 a.m.  The FCA will be meeting in the senior cafeteria.  At our first meeting we'll have food and a wonderful guest speaker.  Anyone is welcome to attend! 

Homecoming dance tickets go on sale during lunch hours this week. Tickets will be sold in order of class so today, seniors can buy tickets for either the 7-8:30 session or the 9-10:30 session.  Cost is $10… cash or checks only. If you are bringing a date, make sure the date request form is filled out by 3:30 pm on Sept. 17th.  (Form was emailed to all students). 

Perhaps one of the most exciting homecoming events, NCHS' Color War is back! Join us for a color-filled game of Capture the Flag and more next week, (Monday, September 20th, from 5-7 PM). Tickets will be on sale every day this week for $6 during lunch in the atrium. You can sign up individually or as a group! 

Attention!  Attention!  Battle of the Bands is still in need of two more acts.  We are opening up the show to soloists.  Any band, duet, or soloist interested in performing at the show would get an application in 238 or see Mr.Safranek!

Attention Ironmen Fans:  Support your NCHS girls’ swimming & diving teams when they compete in the Iron Invite this Saturday at the NCHS pool.  Diving events begin at 8:30 am and swimming events begin at 12:30 pm.  The admission price is $3.00 for students and senior citizens and $4.00 for adults and is good for the entire day - no Student Activity Passes or Unit 5 Family passes will be accepted since this is a special event.  Good luck Lady Iron Swimmers & Divers!

Students: Please be nice to the vending machine in the fish bowl. Mistreating the machine has now caused it to be out of order. If it says "out of order," please know that it isn't working properly and they are trying to fix it.  Thanks!

This week’s senior of the week is Tianna Ziegler. Tianna’s favorite school Lunch is spicy chicken tenders; favorite teacher is Mr. Drengwitz; and favorite TV show is Law and Order. Tianna is looking at college out of town to study political science. Something you may not have known about Tianna is that she works at Noodles & Company.

Attention Juniors, if you are interested in taking the PSAT exam to try to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship and scholarships through corporations like State Farm and Country Financial, please go to the Counselors page on the NCHS website to find registration information.

Juniors & Seniors:  This week starts our fall "College Admissions Rep Visit" season, which means many colleges & universities will be visiting our school to talk to interested students during the school day on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  If you're interested in attending a presentation, please sign up with Mrs. Hawkins in the College & Career Center, also known as the "CCC"!  This week, we welcome "Paul Mitchell The School" and "Western Illinois University."

All current National Honor Society members should have received an email from Mr. Knott regarding new officer elections. The Google Form required to have your name placed on the ballot must be completed by tomorrow, September 8th.

Looking for a way to volunteer in the community? Learn how by attending today’s meeting of the Key club, an international, student-led organization that gives members ways to provide service, build character and develop leadership. The Key club meeting is today at 3:30 in the senior cafeteria.

There will be a Pride meeting after school today from 3:30 to 4:30 in room 36.

Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you!!  Students and Staff.....are you celebrating a birthday in September???  If so, stop by the birthday table in the atrium THIS Wednesday during lunch and pick up your birthday treat from Student Council!!!

This week's senior of the week is Ivie Juarez. Ivie's favorite school lunch is the deli sandwich and misses the fries this year, favorite teacher is Mr. Drengwitz, favorite movie is Matilda. Ivie plans to major in criminal law and go on to law school.

Interested in getting more involved at NCHS?  There are so many opportunities available to you!  The NCHS Activities Fair provides the perfect opportunity to learn more about groups that interest you and how you can get involved.  Join us during your lunch hour tomorrow in the Multipurpose Room.  All students are welcome!

Bike Club will have an informational meeting tomorrow immediately after school in room 10. Anyone with questions should see Mr. Suess.

We'll be having our first meeting of Normal Community HOSA this Wednesday, September 1st, at 3:30 in room 231.  HOSA is a club dedicated to students who are interested in going into health related fields.  All students are welcome to attend.

Chess Club will have the first meeting this Wednesday, September 1st, after school at 3:45 in the IMC. Everyone from beginner to expert is welcome.

Attention all! The first Spanish Club meeting is this Wednesday, September 1st @ 3:30 in the Senior Cafeteria.  We will be getting club officer information and we will also be doing an introductory activity that deals with the Spanish language and culture! Hope to see you there!!

For anyone interested in joining the speech team, there will be an informational meeting this Thursday, September 2nd after school in room 26. Email Miss Zeman with any questions.

Attention Ironmen. Enjoy gaming? Come put your skills to the test and take your team all the way to the state championship. This year Unit 5 Esports will once again have League of Legends, Rocket League, Overwatch, and Smash Bros Esports teams competing in various leagues. Don't play? No worries! Beginners and experts are welcome! You can also support the teams by utilizing your skills. We'll need casters, game analysts, social media content creators, and video editors. Contact Mr. Emberson with your interest in gaming or content creation or attend the informational meeting after school this Thursday September 2nd in room 65.

Ironmen Soccer Fans:  Cheer on the varsity boys’ soccer team when they play two of their top rivals in the Intercity Tournament at home this week – Thursday at 4:30 pm versus Bloomington and Saturday at 10:00 am versus Normal West.  Adult admission is $4.00 and student admission is $3.00 for each game – no student activity passes or Unit 5 family passes will be accepted since this is an Intercity tournament.  Good luck Iron Soccer!

Attention Ironmen JV Volleyball Fans:  Support your junior varsity girls’ volleyball team when they compete in the JV Intercity volleyball tournament this Saturday at NCHS.  The tournament is in round-robin format starting at 8:30 am.  Admission is $4.00 for adults and $3.00 for students and is good for the entire day - no student activity passes or Unit 5 family passes will be accepted since this is an Intercity tournament.  Let’s Go Lady Iron!

Mindful Iron, our school's meditation club, will be meeting for meditation every morning before school at 8 AM in room 14. We will also meet after school on Wednesdays in room 14. Please see Robinson with questions.

Don't miss the first drama club meeting of the year tomorrow, August 24, after school, in the auditorium.  Everyone is welcome.  We will talk about auditions, Festival, and the year ahead.

Auditions for the fall play, Zap!, are this Tuesday and Wednesday after school in the auditorium. You don't have to prepare or bring anything, and it's ok if you can't come to both days. If you have questions check out the web page on the school's website.

One of the best pieces of advice for ANY student at NCHS is to get involved. Whether that's through sports, clubs, or other extracurriculars, it's the best way to meet new people, learn more about yourself, and have lots of fun! Speaking of, here is a great opportunity for ALL students: introducing, FBLA: Future Business Leaders of America, which is hosting its first returning member meeting tomorrow, on Tuesday, August 24th, and its first New Member meeting on Tuesday, August 31st. FBLA is a diverse club with a plethora of opportunities including service projects, competitive events, and a networking chain that includes 250,000 members worldwide! If you're interested, be sure to attend! Again, for returning members, tomorrow, August 24th, and for new members, next Tuesday, August 31st.

Learn about your friends' culture, teach about your own, and enjoy delicious food in the process. Join the NCHS Cultural club in room 14 for an informational meeting this Thursday after school.

The first Spanish Club meeting of the year will be late next week! More information will be shared later this week and early next. If you are interested in running for exec board, please email Ms. Nutter with your name and year in school and she’ll email you an application. Completed forms are due to her by this Friday (8/27) by 4:00.
