• NCWHS Announcements – Monday, October 17, 2022

     

    The Normal Marching Band is your Class 6A Illinois State Champion!  Performances took place at ISU on Saturday, and during the preliminary competition, the band won its class and additional awards for best musical performance (tied), best visual performance, best general effect, and outstanding crowd appeal.  The preliminary performance also qualified the group to perform in finals, where the band was 2nd place out of the day's 42 competitors from all classes.  This is only the second time that Normal West marching band students won a state class championship, and it was the highest-ever finals finish of any Unit 5 group.

     

    National Honor Society- Juniors and Seniors with a GPA 3.7 or higher, should have received an email from Ms. Beggs on Monday, October 17th. If you would like to apply for National Honor Society please fill out the application (found in your email) and return it by Friday, November 11th. Please email Ms. Beggs (beggse@unit5.org) with any questions.

     

    You get a donut! You get a donut! Everyone can get a donut! Every Friday for the rest of the school year, stop by the atrium outside of the cafeteria before school and during lunch periods to get a Krispy Kreme donut for a dollar while supplies last. All money goes towards helping students traveling abroad in the summer of 2023.

     

    Best Buddies will meet in the Senior Cafeteria on Tuesday, October 25th from 3:30-4:30. Please let Mrs. Peterson or Ms. Lueschen know if you cannot make it. We look forward to seeing you there!

     

    The Normal West Dance Team will be hosting a Dodgeball tournament Nov. 11 from 6:30-8:30. Registrations must be in by Nov. 9.  5 Member teams, cost is $25 for double elimination.  For more details, check the registration forms available in the Atrium during lunch hours and on the athletic website.

     

    Student Council is hosting a Blood Drive for the Red Cross on Friday, October 28th.  If you are donating, don’t forget your parent consent form!

     

    Attention Students: DO you need help with homework or just a quiet place to study? Then our After School Assistance Program is for you. It will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays in the IMC beginning today from 3:35-4:35. Transportation will be provided if you need it. If you have any questions, please see Ms. Taylor or Mrs. Goveia for more info. 

     

    All Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors interested in trying out for the 2023 Normal West Baseball teams, there will be a Mandatory Informational Meeting in the Cafeteria today from 3:30-4:15. Be sure to bring a writing utensil and let your fall and winter sport coaches know in advance. We will discuss signups, tryout info, intramural info, and Q&A. Any questions, see Coach Beaty in the math office.

     

    Student Council will be selling Halloween lollipops in the Atrium starting today!  Stop by our table and support your school! 

     

    An additional tryout will be held for the Normal West Dance Team. The tryout for the competitive dance team will be Oct. 24 from 4-7. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact:  Coach Weakly    weaklys@unit5.org. 

     

    If you have an NCWHS teacher or staff member who you believe deserves some recognition, here is your chance to give them a shout-out!  Look for the nominations form that is linked below every couple of weeks during the school year to nominate a teacher or staff member you think exhibits "kat-itude."
