Parkside Elementary Scrip Program
Dear PSE Parents and Staff:
We’re pleased to share information about an ongoing fundraising program for our organization. It’s called “scrip”, and it’s the fundraising program that works while you shop. Last year, our organization earned $2800 through this “no selling” fundraiser.
Scrip is simply a word that means “substitute money” – in other words, scrip is gift certificates from national and local retailers. They’re the same gift certificates that you buy at the store. Many popular retailers participate in our scrip program including Wal-Mart, Meijer, Jewel, BP, Shell, Subway, Steak-n-Shake, Target, Carl’s Ice Cream, and hundreds more.
You’re probably asking yourself how these stores help us raise money. It’s simple -- scrip participating retailers agree to sell gift certificates to our organization at a discount. Member families like yours buy the certificates for full face value, they redeem them for full face value, and our school keeps the difference as revenue. Scrip is exciting, because everybody wins:
· The retailer gets cash up front and repeat business…
· You get a powerful fundraising alternative that involves no selling…
· Our school gets a regular source of revenue.
The beauty of scrip is that you put your regular household shopping dollars to work. You earn money for our school without spending a single additional penny. Just spend your regular shopping dollars with scrip at the stores that participate in the scrip program! Scrip can be used for just about any household purchase including food, clothing, entertainment, gasoline and even dining out.
Scrip order forms will be sent home through Skyward Access each month and will be due the first Thursday of each month. You can return your completed order form and payment to the PTO mailbox by the due date or your order can be placed on your online account. If purchasing online, you have the option to pay online through Presto Pay (similar to Pay Pal) or by sending a check- made payable to Parkside PTO and placed in the PTO mailbox. Orders will be sent home via your child’s backpack or may be picked up in the office the following week, on Friday. You will indicate how you would like to receive your order on the order form. Many participating retailers allow our families to reload gift cards or print certificates at home, outside of the monthly order dates- making it convenient to order scrip when you need it. (Online account is required.)
New this year, the PTO will offer an incentive program to all participating families. Each family will earn a raffle ticket for every $100 purchased in scrip gift cards. During the last PTO meeting of the school year, May 4th, all tickets will be placed in a raffle for the chance to win an Apple Ipad Mini.
