Hi! My name is Susy Marcum and I am your school nurse.
I have been a nurse for 26 years since graduating from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1989. I worked for several years at BroMenn Hospital in the medical/oncology unit and then worked in an OB/GYN doctor's office for a few years before coming to Unit 5. It is hard for me to believe, but I have been a Unit 5 School Nurse for over 20 years now!
I split my day between Grove Elementary School and Fairview Elementary School, spending approximately half a day at each school. My favorite part about my job is getting into the classroom and teaching the children all about being healthy; from healthy eating, to being more active to washing hands. I love to see the "ligh bulb" go on when a child learns something new. I am the curriculum chair for the Unit 5 Nursing Department and the chair of the District Wellness Committee. Wellness is my passion and my priviledge to teach to your child.
I hope you will ask your child what they have learned from one of my health lessons. Together we can make a difference!
