Hi! Welcome to Third Grade! My name is Dawn Smith. I was born and raised on Unit #5 Schools. I graduated from Eureka College and President Reagan handed me my diploma. My claim to fame! I have two boys that are living in Chicago and Indianapolis, who are also products of Unit #5. A great place to be! I also have two male dogs Scooby and Shaggy. I love the Chicago Bears, Chicago Blackhawks, and the Atlanta Braves. I lived in Atlanta for 3 very short years! I love the colors blue and pink. My favorite thing to do in the world is to sit by the pool and read, read, read. My favorite subject to teach is Math, especially multiplication and fractions.I began my teaching career at Carlock as a teacher assistant in kindergarten. After that I moved to Towanda and taught fourth and sixth grade. When they closed Towanda to do renovations I moved to Northpoint where I taught second grade and then moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Once we moved back I was hired back at Towanda and taught first, third, and fourth. When Grove opened in 2001, I was hired as one of the two third grade teachers. We now have 5 third grade teachers. I earned my masters degree in Reading and Curriculum from Nova Southeastern in 2008.Many people have asked me why I wanted to be a teacher? Of course, I have a love for children. But the real reason is that every day is different. The children are the future of our world. They have such a thirst for learning and so do I. I love being a part of molding our future.
