Unit 5 offers a fun and exciting Pre-Kindergarten program for qualifying students ages three to five. This program is available free of charge to eligible students living within District boundaries. Pre-K staff determines eligibility and student acceptance into the program. Placement is based on student needs. Currently, there are three sites with Early Learning classrooms: Brigham, Sugar Creek, and Fairview.
The purpose of Unit 5's Early Learning program is to provide a stimulating and nurturing environment for young children. Students are given the chance to become successful and build self-confidence. This program is designed to increase student opportunities, help prepare for future achievements, and meet individual needs and goals in eight domains of learning.
- Language Arts
- Mathematics
- Science
- Social Studies
- Physical Development and Health
- Fine Arts
- Foreign/Primary Language
- Social/Emotional
These domains of learning are part of the Illinois Early Learning State Standards

Early Learning Supplies
Illinois State Board of Education partially funds our programming through grants. Grant guidelines state that programs cannot post and request school supplies. Grant funds will supply teachers with basic supplies for the school year. Your child’s teacher may post “wish lists” throughout the year and parents have the option to contribute if you are able. Items that your child should have for school are:
1. Backpack
2. Extra set of clothes
3. Diapers/pulls up and wipes if your child is not yet toilet trained
If you are able or wish to contribute other basic school supplies such as washable markers, crayons, etc, feel free to make a donation to the classroom. However, no child will be without the necessary supplies to participate fully in our daily programming activities.
Screenings are for students living within the Unit 5 school boundaries that are 3 or 4 years old.Call email prekscreenings@unit5.org to schedule an appointment.Bus routes:Routes and bus numbers can be seen in your family access of Infinite Campus at any time throughout the school year. Please make sure you check this information regularly for any changes.
