Our Purpose
it is the CAC's mission to represent the Unit 5 community by fostering district-wide dialogue and examining topics of interest. The Citizens Advisory Council acts in an advisory capacity to the Unit 5 Board of Education, serves as a liaison between the community and the Board, and serves as a means of lay participation in Unit 5's educational planning process.
Membership Qualifications
Candidates should submit a completed application form to the appropriate school or to the District Office. Membership on the council is limited to three parent representatives from each Unit 5 school and up to nine community members who reside in Unit 5 and do not have children enrolled in any Unit 5 school.
Parent Representatives
Parent representatives shall have children enrolled in the attendance center represented while serving as a CAC member. Each high school and junior high school shall be represented by three CAC parent representatives. Each elementary school shall be represented by two CAC parent representatives.
At-Large Representatives
At-large members must reside in Unit 5 and cannot have children enrolled in any Unit 5 school while serving as a CAC member. Up to nine at-large representatives shall serve on the CAC.
Member Duties
Members should:
- fulfill the purpose of the Council;
- attend CAC meetings regularly;
- communicate with their school's parent-teacher group and/or the community.
