BEYOND THE BOOKS EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION was formed to fund innovative enrichment programs for the students of Unit 5 and District 87 public schools. These programs extend the resources of the school districts, enabling educators to go beyond standard classroom experiences.

The recipients of these funds are educators whose creative and unique ideas are launched into model programs that can be adapted for use throughout the districts. These projects provide additional learning, experiences for students that are not typically funded by normal tax support.

Bloomington/Normal Community Campus Committee is determined to counter binge drinking through campus and community partnerships.

Convincing students not to binge drink isn’t easy, particularly when they're surrounded by social influences encouraging them to do just that; Cheap drink specials, easy access to alcohol, and glamorous, fun, sex-filled advertising imagery, and you have a very appealing message. Fortunately, we're learning that we can counter these influences through campus-community partnerships.

The teen years often present some of our greatest parenting challenges. As our children become more independent they address temptations and dangers that can affect their health and safety, like alcohol and other drugs. It can at times seem our teens dismiss what we say and their peers have all of the power. However, you should know, when parents talk to their kids about underage drinking they listen. 83% of youth ages 10-18 years old, cite parents as the leading influence in their decision to not drink at all, or not to drink on occasion.

Our hope is the information contained on this site will assist you in guiding, directing and “coaching” your teen to make the best decisions surrounding alcohol use. We know it is a challenge – even some of the best-skilled and most caring parents in the world have problems with their teens. But, taking steps now CAN help!

The Pratt Music Foundation promotes classical music in Bloomington-Normal-McLean County. Our primary activity is the Pratt Music FoundationScholarship Program: individual music instruction, in piano or strings, for talented, motivated students, with financial need, in grades 2 through 12.

Promise Council purpose is to remove barriers to learning because we believe all children deserve the opportunity to achieve success through education.  We are committed to seeing children experience the fundamental resources they need to succeed – we call them our 5 Promises:

• Safe Places that offer constructive use of time
• A Healthy Start and healthy development
• An Effective Education that builds marketable skills
• Opportunities to Help Others by making a difference through service

Promise Councils are committed to supporting students based on three key areas identified by local teachers and staff:

1. Providing more adult mentors for students
2. Meeting physical needs of students when they stand in the way of academic achievement
3. Increasing opportunities for parental engagement
