Degrees and Certifications:
How does a child get better at reading? Lots of PRACTICE! That is what 3W students will get in our Reader’s Workshop time every day.
Reader’s Workshop is a method that allows the teacher to meet the needs of each learner in the classroom. Instead of the traditional method of having the teacher stand in front of the class and teach the same lesson to all of the students at once, the Workshop Model allows the teacher more time to work with students individually or in small groups. Each session begins with a “mini-lesson” which focuses on one specific reading skill. Students are then sent to practice that skill using self-selected books at their personal reading level During this independent time the teacher “conferences” with students either one-on-one or in small groups allowing skills to be reinforced or enriched. Each session ends with a short time of sharing to further solidify what has been taught and practiced.
