IESA Cross Country is a fall sport. The varsity team has seven runners. First five runners score points based on their place at the finish line (e.g. first place wins one point) and are added together for a TEAM SCORE. Lowest score wins. Runners six and seven are "pushers" and can help make other teams score higher. All other runners not on varsity make up the OPEN field and will sometimes run separately in their own race (bigger meets). OPEN runners still win points and can win ribbons/medals. Runners will complete a 2 mile course over mostly grass surfaces. Courses can vary from 1.9 to 2.1. As every course is different, course records are recorded on our home course only.
