Cougar Chorus is an extracurricular club that meets on Wednesday afternoons beginning October 2. The chorus is open to 4th and 5th grade students at Prairieland Elementary School and is designed to provide more advanced opportunities for singing and vocal development as well as more performance opportunities. The Cougar Chorus will be led this year by Mr. Beirne.
Below you will find details of rehearsal rules and guidelines, upcoming events, and other information. My overall goal for the chorus is to continue to present the students with the idea that music is a fun and engaging activity. I’m thrilled to have such a large and diverse group of students and I’m looking forward to having lots of fun with them!
Communication will be done through email and text. I would like to ask that parents subscribe to text communications through the Remind app. This is very helpful when meeting outside of school for various performances. To join, simply text @plchorus to 81010. I’d also like to setup an Instagram and Facebook page for the group. If there is a parent volunteer that wouldn’t mind assisting with this, please let me know!
As I’ve shared with students, I would like to give them the chance to get a taste of what a junior high rehearsal will look like. I plan to hold our 4th and 5th graders to a standard that will enable them to begin to appreciate the accountability and responsibility that comes with an extracurricular activity.
Rehearsals will be on Wednesdays after school beginning five minutes after the bell rings. Students will need to be in their assigned place ready to warm up at or before 2:35pm.
Please try to have your student at every rehearsal. All rehearsals are considered “required.” Students needing to miss more than three rehearsal in a semester should reconsider whether Cougar Chorus is for them. Please discuss with your student what committing to the group means, and that includes going to rehearsals even on days they may not feel like it.
We will be standing for the entire 45 minute rehearsal. In addition, I am going to encourage students to use the restroom before or after rehearsal to minimize disruptions. Should the need arise, individual students will of course be allowed to sit or use the restroom during rehearsal. Accommodations listed in IEP or 504 plans will also be followed, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions.
Students will be given a paper with lyrics to our songs. Please work with your student to ensure the words are memorized within two weeks. For example, lyrics handed out at our first rehearsal on October 2 will need to be memorized by the October 16 rehearsal.
Rehearsals will end at 3:20pm. Students will be dismissed out the back door where they first enter in the mornings. They will not be allowed to return to their classrooms. Parents picking up their children can do so in the rear of the school as usual. Please do your best to pick up on time. Three late pickups may result in the student not being able to continue with Chorus.
Chorus is done for the 2019-20 school year. Watch for information in mid-September 2020 for when we get together again!
