Mrs. Hall

Hello! My name is Monique Holliday Hall and I have the honor of being one of the first grade teachers here at Sugar Creek Elementary. This is my 13th year teaching, and my 5th year at Sugar Creek Elementary. I love teaching six and seven year olds, and am always amazed at the growth they make every year!

To tell you a little about myself, I was born and raised in Normal, and grew up in Lancaster Heights. I attended Sugar Creek from Kindergarten through 6th grade, and have so many fond memories of this school. I went on to Chiddix Jr. High and graduated from "the original" Normal Community High School.  I went to Illinois State University, and have a bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication, and another bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.  I also have my master's degree from NOVA University in Curriculum and Instruction. Teaching is a career change for me. I've always wanted to be a teacher, but chose a different career path after talking to the Vice President of State Farm. When my oldest son started Kindergarten, I would literally get goose bumps when I'd enter the building. I ignored what I call "the little nudge" and tried doing other things such as teaching in Learning and Development at State Farm as well as substituting through a program the company had with both school districts. After MANY goosebumps and nudges 5 years later I decided to take a leap of faith, and large paycut to pursue a profession I know I was called to be in. I finally left State Farm after 21 years leaving behind a company I started working in at the age of 17 part-time while going to I.S.U. career as a Commercial Underwriter. I did spend my last 7 years with the company working part-time in the evenings at State Farm bank and teaching first grader's during the day.

I am the mother of five beautiful children. My two son Montrell and Jaxson are ages 25 and 8. Montrell graduated with from U of I with a degree in Sociology back in 2016. He resides in Chicago. Jaxson is in second grade at Sugar Creek, and loves football! He plays for the Twin City Tigers. My daughter Jazmyne is 15 and is a freshman at Normal Community High School. She is a dancer, and competes in competitions. Jayde is 13 and in seventh grade at Kingsley. She was a cheerleader last year, and is working to hone her skills. My youngest daughter's name is Jordyne and she is 10 years old. She is in fifth grade at Sugar Creek and is on a competitive cheer team. I can't leave out my two dogs Jinx and Max. They are both Morkies (Maltese and Yorkshire Terrier), and truly make our family complete.

I became a teacher with a specific goal to eventually teach at Sugar Creek. I am truly blessed to be teaching at the schol I went to where many of the teachers had such a profound effect on me. Teaching truly comes from my heart, and is a true passion for me. I am constantly learning new things to be the best teacher I can be, and provide top education that is tailored to fit the needs of each of my students.

I am so excited to be working with your child this year. My main goal is to create a safe, warm, and inviting classroom where your childs academic and social/emotional needs are being met. I firmly believe in fostering a strong home/school connection because it truly takes a village.

Always feel free to contact me at hallm@unit5.org with any questions you may have.

It is going to be a wonderful school year. It is a great day to be a Cheetah!
