Free and Reduced Meals
Unit 5 participates in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs which require that schools offer free or reduced-price meals to eligible children. All students may participate in the meal programs but must meet certain criteria to qualify for free or reduced price meals. Reduced price lunches are $0.40. Reduced price breakfasts are $0.30.
Eligibility for free and reduced-price meals is determined based upon several factors. Children in households receiving benefits from SNAP or TANF as well as those who are foster children are eligible for free meals regardless of household income. Children who are homeless, runaway, or migrant also qualify for free meals.
Children may also qualify for free or reduced price meals based on household income which takes into consideration the number of people living in the household and all forms of income. Families with incomes at or below 130 percent of the poverty level are eligible for free meals. Those with incomes between 130 percent and 185 percent of the poverty level are eligible for reduced-price meals. More information about Income and Eligibility Guidelines for 2017-18 will be posted in August.
A new application must be completed each school year. To apply for free or reduced price meals:
Print and complete the Free and Reduced Meal Price Application Form. Check back in August for the 2017-18 form.
Complete only one application per family.
Include all household members on the application.
Return the completed form to your child's school office.
The information you provide will be used to determine or prove your child's eligibility for free or reduced-priced meals. This information may also be used for other state or federally funded school benefits. You will be notified by mail of your child's meal status.
