• Culinary Arts

     
    I had the pleasure of teaching the culinary arts program at Normal Community West High School for many years. 
     
    Culinary Arts is a high school, one semester class that explores the basic principles of food preparation: including kitchen math and measurement, kitchen safety and sanitation, knife skills, product identification and use, and application of cooking methods.  Students engage in hands-on cooking labs and demonstrations to reinforce skills and increase learning. 
     
    A variety of recipes are used to practice cooking techniques, explore tastes and develop the palate. Students also practice reading, increase their vocabulary, apply the use of adjectives, and practice summarizing information related to the food industry.  The following pictures are from when I taught at NCWHS.
