    School Hours (www.unit5.org)

Elementary school hours in Unit 5 are 7:45-2:30.

    District Calendar (www.unit5.org)

    Classroom Assignments

Classroom assignments will be posted on the west doors of the school on Friday, August 11th after 4:00 pm.  Please do not request an assignment change.

August 14th – Kindergarten Parent Night “Welcome to Kindergarten” (parents only) 5:30-6:15

Welcome to Kindergarten.  Kindergarten parents are invited to meet with the Kindergarten staff and learn about the program.

August 15th – K-5 Open House Back to School Night (Supply Drop Off) 5:00-6:00

An Open House Back to School Night, Supply Drop Off, and Parent/Teacher Conference Sign-up for all grades will be held on Tuesday, August 15th from 5:00-6:00 pm.  We invite you to tour the building, meet the teachers, bring in supplies, and sign-up for Parent/Teacher Conferences.

August 16th – First Full Day of School

The first day of school for all students in Wednesday, August 16th with classes beginning at 7:45 and dismissing at 2:30.  Buses will be running.  FULL BUS SERVICE.

    Morning Drop Off

Doors open and supervision begins at 7:30 am.  Students may enter the building and report to the gym from 7:30-7:40.  Students will line up in number order assigned by the classroom teacher with their class and will be dismissed from the gym to class beginning at 7:40.  Learning begins at 7:45.  A great day begins.

All buses will continue to drop off in the south bus lane.  Parents may drop off students in the south parking lot, north drive, or on Grandview Drive.  The best options are Grandview Drive and the south parking lot.  I would recommend one of these, not the north drive.

Students in K, 4, and 5 will line up in the north gym, while students in 1, 2, and 3 will line up in the south gym.

    After School Pick Up

Students are dismissed at 2:30.  All 2:30 buses will continue to pick up in the south bus lane.  The circle drive will have some bus pick up from 1:45-2:15.  Student pick up will be in the south parking lot, Grandview Drive, or the north drive after 2:30.  Again, I recommend the south lot or Grandview Dr.

    Physicals and Immunizations (www.unit5.org)

Illinois law requires that all students entering an early childhood program, kindergarten, sixth, or ninth grades or transferring from out of state, have a physical examination within one calendar year prior to the first day of school.  The examination must include a complete immunization record and medical history.  Students transferring from another Illinois school must present copies of their current Illinois health records.

Children without physicals and immunizations will NOT be allowed to start school until the school nurse receives the records.  NO appointment cards will be accepted.

The following immunizations are required by the State of Illinois.  The specific requirements for each are determined in Section 665.240 (Basic Immunization) and Section 665.250 (Proof of Immunity) of Title 77 of the Illinois Administrative Code.

    1. DPT/DTaP
    2. Tdap (grades 6 and 9)

    10. Meningitis (grades 6 and 12)

    Dental Exams (http://www.idph.state.il.us/HealthWellness/oralhlth/DentalExamProof10.pdf)

Effective July 1, 2005 – Public Act 93-946 requires all Illinois children in Kindergarten, Second, and Sixth Grades to have an oral health exam.  Each child shall present proof of exam by a dentist prior to May 15th, 2018.

    Vision Exams (http://www.idph.state.il.us/HealthWellness/EyeExamReport.pdf)

  • Kelly Tobin

A HUGE thank you goes out to Kelly Tobin of LaGondola.  Mr. Tobin has supported our school for years by offereing free LaGondola meals as rewards for students at Colene Hoose.  He is moving on to open his own restaurant and will be sadly missed within our Hoose community.  A BIG thank you, to an awesome Hoose supporter!
