Dear Unit 5 Community,Thank you for your extraordinary support over the past several days, as we deal with the growing coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic. As you may know, to further safeguard Illinois from the spread of the virus, Governor J.B. Pritzker has declared mandatory school closures for all buildings serving pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students.This mandatory closure takes effect Tuesday, March 17. UNIT 5 SUPERINTENDENT HIRED
McLean County Unit District No. 5 is pleased to announce that Dr. Kristen Kendrick-Weikle was hired as the District’s 13th superintendent.
“Dr. Kendrick-Weikle will be an excellent addition to the Unit 5 Family,” said Board President Barry Hitchins. “She brings vision, passion and experience to our District that will serve our staff, students and community as we continue to educate each student to achieve personal excellence.”
Dr. Kendrick-Weikle will begin her new position July 1, replacing Dr. Mark Daniel, who has been in Unit 5 since July 2014.

Students in fifth grade for the 2020-2021 school year can sign up to participate in the Unit 5 instrumental exploration event. The event is April 6, and the deadline to register is March 16 This is a great opportunity for students to consider an instrument. -
NEW 9th GRADE DENTAL MANDATES
There is a new mandate for a 9th grade dental exam.
• All Illinois children in kindergarten, Grade 2, Grade 6, and Grade 9 are required to have an oral health examination.• Examinations must be performed by a licensed dentist, and he/she must sign the Proof of School Dental Examination form.• Each child is required to present proof of examination by a dentist prior to May 15 of the school year.• School dental examinations must have been completed within the 18 months prior to the May 15 deadline.CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION. -

Unit 5 is on Pinterest. The social media site provides a variety of resources for parents and students on wide ranging topics. Pinterest is a virtual bulletin board allowing Unit 5 to organize and share items.
