Parents As
Partners
Dr. Charles Hartseil, Director of Special
Education, formed Parents As Partners in the Fall of 1994.
Dr. Hartseil's goal was to develop a venue for ongoing
collaboration and sharing between parents and educational
staff. He was also interested in receiving feedback
from parents in order to improve services for students. As a
result, Parents As Partners is made up of parents of
children with special education needs and a few school
staff. This group has taken on many topics that impact the
district.
Parents As Partners has collaborated with Project Choices, to offer
a variety of workshops on various topics, such as
communication, vocational supports and transition issues.
Some other past projects have included conducting Awareness
Fairs in some of the Unit 5 elementary schools, creating
topical newsletters and disseminating a variety of
publications to support parents through all aspects of
special education services. This group meets once a
month, and welcomes anyone within the Unit 5 School District
to join.
Please continue to check this location for
updated information on meetings, and scheduled trainings.
