Extended School Year Services
A. Extended School Year services (ESY)
Extended School Year Services are special education and
related services that are provided by the Member Districts
to an IDEA eligible student with a disability beyond a
Member Districts regular school year in accordance with the
student’s IEP at no cost to the parent(s)/guardian(s) and
meet the standards of the SEA.
1. Extended school year services shall be
provided to each special education student whose unique
needs require special education and related services in
excess of the regular school year.
2. Special education student’s who may require
extended school year services are those whose IEP’s specify
an extended school year program and/or related services as
determined by the student’s IEP Team in accordance with the
IDEA and ISBE standards and regulations.
3. The student’s IEP Team shall determine the
type, amount, and/or duration of the services necessary as
part of the student’s extended school year services on an
individualized basis.
4. In no event may the Member Districts or a
student’s IEP Team limit the provision of extended school
year services to students with a particular category or
categories of disability or unilaterally limit the type,
amount, or duration of those services.
