Book Orders
Each month students will have
the opportunity to order Scholastic books. If you would like to order
books just fill out the forms and return by the stated due date.
All checks should be made out to the book club.
Assignment Notebook
All students have an assignment
notebook and are expected to use it. This is an important organizational
skill we will be working on this year. Students are to record assignments
and check them off when completed. Please check this daily.
Helpful Hints for Students
at Home
Have a priority list for things which have to be done each
evening.
Have a special study time and study area.
Use a calendar for due dates.
Make checks in the assignment notebook as assignments are
completed.
Place completed assignments in the book bag.
Have a handy spot to place the book bag to be taken back to
school.
Have your child pack for school, the night before.
Talk about each day’s happenings.
Encourage your child to look for various alternatives to solve
problems.
When all choices fail, then ask for assistance. You’d be surprised how
many problems children can learn to solve by themselves.
Encourage
self-reliance.
Birthdays
We love to celebrate birthdays
in the fourth grade. It is helpful to know in advance of when treats are going
to be brought to school. Please note that 4RS is a peanut free zone. We
ask that you not send any home made treats and to check carefully that the
treats that you do send have no peanuts in them. The best way to
determine if a product contains peanuts is to read the label. Thank you
for your cooperation.

FRIDAY FOLDER
Communication between home and
school is vital to your child’s success in the classroom.
To keep you informed and aware
of what we are doing in school, a folder with papers and tests your child has
completed in all areas of the curriculum will be sent home every Friday.
Please take time to review and
discuss these papers with your child. Then sign and date the form on the folder,
keep the papers (unless otherwise noted), and have your child return the empty
folder on Monday.
GOAL CARDS
At the beginning of each week,
your child will receive a goal card. As we, as adults often do, the
children will set a goal for themselves that they would like to accomplish that
week. It’s amazing to see how well each child really knows
himself/herself, and understands what they need to do to make themselves a more
complete student.
At the end of each day, the children
reflect on their day, asking themselves the following questions – “Did I follow
rules?” “Did I complete my homework and daily assignments?” and “Did I
display organizational skills?” They mark their charts appropriately with
plusses and minuses.
At the end of the week, the goal
cards are sent home for parents to view and discuss with their child.
It’s always very important to see if your child has worked on meeting their
goal and discussing the strategies they used to help them meet that goal.
Since good behavior, completing homework, and staying organized is a big part
of their educational success, we would also like you to address these issues,
and give those who have met that responsibility a big smile and a high
five.
The fourth grade students will
have the opportunity to be school leaders this year. They have been asked
to assist other students as reading buddies and lunchroom helpers.
