Prairieland Morning Student Drop-off
Guidelines
A school parking lot is a dangerous place due to the amount of traffic and
the constant potential for a small child to dart out in front of a car. When
driving on school property, all drivers must drive cautiously. At no time is it
acceptable to use a cell phone or to allow yourself to be otherwise distracted
while driving on school property. Our children deserve your complete attention.
- Drop off may be done either in
front or
rear –
whichever is most convenient for you.
Drop off no earlier than
8:10 a.m. – there is no adult supervision until
8:10.
The Henry Street entrance will be blocked off at Raab Road at
8:00 a.m..
After that, use the east entrance to access either the front or rear student
drop off lanes, or the parking lot.
The right hand driveway lane is for access to rear drop off and rear
parking lot only.
The left hand driveway lane is for access to front drop off and front
parking lot only.
At 8:20 a.m.,
the rear drop off lane will be blocked to allow students safe access to the
portable classrooms.
On "Outside"
days, the children line up outside in the back and may not
enter through the front of the school until
8:25 a.m.
Prior to 8:25, students dropped off in front will walk along the front of
the school and go around the west side.
On "Inside"
days, the children may enter through the front or rear of the
school and will line up in the gym.
Once the first bell has rung at
8:25 a.m.,
children may enter directly through the front of the building.
Drivers, please stay in your car so we can keep traffic moving. We all
love our children very much, but if everyone is gets out to give hugs, it
prohibits traffic from flowing smoothly.
If you need to leave your vehicle – or if you prefer to give those start
of the day hugs, you must park in a designated parking spot and escort your
child to the building. On those off days when your child is having a tough
morning, please pull into a parking spot to console and comfort them so as
not to delay all the cars behind you.
Parking lot aisles may not
be used as parking spaces or pick up/drop off
places.
Bus lane may be used for drop off as long as
no buses are present.
Front Procedures
- The drop off lane is the lane closest to the sidewalk. Children may not
be dropped off in the parking lot.
- Pull all the way forward in the striped lane before letting children
out. As much as possible, have children exit from the passenger side
directly onto the sidewalk.
- Once you have dropped off your child – IN THE FRONT - you may use the
passing lane to exit.
Rear Procedures
- The drop off lane is the lane closest to the cones. Children may not be
dropped off in the parking lot.
- Please pull as far
forward
as possible before letting children out. As much
as possible, have children exit from the driver’s side directly into the
coned off safety area. Do not unload until your vehicle is on the striped
lane.
After your children have exited, please STAY IN THE LEFT HAND DROP OFF
LANE.
Do not pull into the passing lane when dropping off.
Using the passing lane creates a tremendous amount of
congestion and there is no way for drivers to safely view children exiting
on the right or walkers in the parking lot.
If you have parked in the parking lot,
please walk down to the crossing guard
to cross your child.
Prairieland Afternoon Student Pick-up Guidelines
A school parking lot is a dangerous place due to the amount of traffic and
the constant potential for a small child to dart out in front of a car. When
driving on school property, all drivers must drive cautiously. At no time is it
acceptable to use a cell phone or to allow yourself to be otherwise distracted
while driving on school property. Our children deserve your complete attention.
K-1 will exit the
building through the front
doors.
Children in grades
2-5 will exit the
building through the rear doors
(the west entrance on the rear blacktop)
Siblings/children in carpools should exit the building with the oldest
children in their group walking through the inside of the building to meet
those younger children.
Henry Street will be blocked off at Raab Road no later than
3:00 p.m. -
after that, use the east entrance to access either the front or rear student
pick up lanes, or the parking lot.
The right-hand driveway lane is for access to the rear pick up and
parking areas and should never be blocked: no parking, stopping.
The left-hand driveway lane is for access to the pick up lane directly
in front of the school and for the front parking lot.
Bus lane may be used for pick up after 3:20 and as long as no buses are
present. Buses always have the
right of way in the bus lane over passenger cars.
Never pass a bus while it is in the bus lane, even if the stop arm is
not extended.
Parking lot aisles may not be used as parking spaces or pick up places.
Children may not walk unattended through the parking lot.
If you need to leave your vehicle, you must park in a designated parking
spot and walk to the building to pick up your child(ren).
Each car entering the pick up lanes should pull as far forward as
possible before allowing children to get into the vehicle.
Once children have gotten into the vehicle, you may use the passing lane
to exit. In the afternoon, this applies to both the front and rear.
Front Procedures
- The pick up lane is the lane closest to the sidewalk – this applies to
both the lane in front of the school and the bus lane.
- As much as possible, children should enter the vehicles directly from
the sidewalk (the right-hand side of the vehicle)
Rear Procedures
- The rear pick up lane will be blocked at the back of the school– until
approximately
2:30 p.m.
Do not drive around the barricades.
Please – never drive on the playground
when our students are present.
The pick up lane is the lane closest to the cones. Once children are in
the vehicle, you may use the passing lane in the afternoon. Do not load
students until your vehicle is on the striped pick up lane.
Always use extreme caution when driving through our three crosswalks in
the rear and west side of the building.
