In the course of using and/or creating Internet-Based Lessons and Projects, you will obvioulsy find it necessary to serach the Internet.  You will also find it necessary to help your students search the Internet for information.  Below are some helpful tools for your search of the World Wide Web.

Searching the Internet:

Knowing how to search is the first key to successfully finding what you are looking for.  The site created by Michelle Glatt for Unit 5's Librarian's Research Institute provides some very helpful information concerning successful search techniques.  Unit 5 Librarian's Research Institute

Here are some search engines and portals that may help you and your students.  You may also want to create some hotlists to go with your project or with projects you participate in.

Unit 5 Internet Gateway: A collection of varous tools to help you on the Internet
Google: A wonderful categorical search engine/portal
Alta Vista: word and phrase searches
Dogpile: multi-search engine tool
Excite: can search terms using "and"
HotBot: phrase searches, simple and expert
Lycos: lists site sin order of relevancy
Magellan: categorical search tool
Metacrawler: searches multiple search engines
SearchCom: a useful meta-search tool, can also search e-mail and yellow pages
Yahoo: a categorical web portal
Yahooligans: good site for students to use
Ask Jeeves for Kids: A decent site for kids to use - type in "questions"
