A little introduction:
Instructor:
My name is Ben Matthews. I grew up attending Unit
5 schools before graduating from University
High School in 1994. I then graduated from Lincoln
Christian College and Illinois
State University in 1999 with Bachelor's Degrees in Bible and
Elementary Education. I currently teach fifth grade, serve as
building technologist and webmaster at Prairieland
Elementary School.
Course:
This course is designed to introduce you to the concept of
Internet-Based Lessons and Projects. You will have the opportunity
to gain background knowledge and information about Internet-Based
lessons and projects, view several examples of projects, create your own
project, and share your ideas with others. While this course in no
way can cover the entire scope of this concept, it should help you move
to a point where you are comfortable with the concept and ready to apply
it in your teaching.
Here are some basics about
Internet-Based Lessons and Projects:
Like everything else, Internet-Based Lessons and Projects may vary
in definition according to whom you ask. But, there are some
basics that most would agree on. Internet-Based Lessons and
Projects include, but are not necessarily limited to:
- online correspondence, communication,
and exchange
- information seeking, gathering, and
collecting
- problem-solving and competitions
- WebQuests
- online conferencing
Day Two
Hopefully you have a better idea of what Internet-Based Lessons and
Projects are all about. Today you can review the faq
(frequently asked questions) page to see answers to the questions that
were asked. You then will have time to either 1) find one or more
good IBL/P for use yin your classroom and complete a plan for using
it/them, or 2) begin working on your own IBL/P that you can use in your
classroom and then eventually post to the web. Please email
me any good projects you find, especially if you plan on using them
in your classroom - simply copy the address of the website and paste it
into the text/message of your email. Thanks.
Clicking on the mouse icon at the top
will take you to the "practice"/sample internet-based project
for this course.
