Word Art can be a nice way to "jazz up" your documents.  You can also use Word Art in Power Point presentations and even on web pages. Word Art

Types  |  Tools  |  Tips & Tricks

Types
Word Art itself is a Microsoft created product.  However, the idea of using words and text "artistically" has been around a much longer time.

When referring to "types" in reference to Word Art, there are several "styles" of Word Art to choose from.  You should decide on your purpose and then allow that to determine the style:

  • circular
  • banner
  • outlines
  • backgrounds
  • 3-D
  • waves
  • shapes

Tools
Word Art itself can be created and used directly in Microsoft's productivity tools such as Word and Power Point.  However, you can then take that Word Art and create an image (gif or jpg) and use it in web page or other documents, etc.

Microsoft Word/Power Point

  • In your document you should see a "drawing toolbar"
  • If not, right click on the top toolbar and then click on "drawing" and it should appear
  • <<<This is the word art icon
  • This is the Word Art Gallery you can choose from
  • Then you can edit the text and make it your own
  • click "ok" and it inserts it into your document
  • now you can move it and manipulate it or completely change it again

Creating an Image with Your Word Art

To create a gif or jpeg image from your Word Art, do all of the following and then:

  • right click the word art
  • select copy
  • go to START
  • go to "programs"
  • go to accessories
  • open "paint"
  • go to edit / paste
  • or right click in paint and select paste
  • now you can add to it or leave it as it is . . .
  • go to "file"
  • select "save as . . ."
  • name the file
  • select the file type - probably will limit you to BMPs - you can then open this BMP in PhotoEditor and resave it as a gif or jpeg
  • now you can access and use that image in a number of applications
