| Every
building should have at least one Sony Mavica Digital Camera like we will be
using this week.
Check with your IMC/Technology
people if you are not sure where they are, etc. |

Types
There are several types of digital cameras available. Digital
video cameras often work as still-frame cameras as well. Cost varies
with quality and features. We have Sony Mavica cameras in our
buildings, which is what we will practice with and discuss this week.
return to top Tools
The digital camera bags come with the following items (and should be
returned with the following items as well!)
- digital camera w/ strap
- battery
- battery charger
- cord for charger
The battery should last about 2 hours,
but it is always a good idea to make sure it is fully charged before using
it and to charge it completely when you finish so others can use it.
The camera itself stores the images on a
3.5 disk that you need to provide. These images can then be placed
directly into a document or opened in a graphics application. We
will practice this later in the "practice" session.

Tips & Tricks
- make sure the battery is charged
- keep in mind some important things when
using the digital camera to take pictures:
- who is in it? - kids, what is the
purpose (i.e. web guidelines)
- what is in the background? - will
it be distracting, etc?
- light? - it can be cleaned up
later, but better to prevent problems if possible
- focus? - take your time - don't
move to quickly or you could blur the picture
- effects? - black and white,
solarized, etc. - I recommend taking a regular picture so you have an
original - then you can add these effects with an application like
Photo Editor
- after pictures are taken they will be
saved as MVC-some number. To name them what you want do this:
- put the disk in your computer - you
should fit about 30 pictures on a disk
- go to My Computer
- Select Your A Drive
- single click one of the pictures
- a preview should appear
- now right click the file name
- select "rename"
- name it based on what is in it for easy
future reference
