This is a fun book about a termite insect who wants to become an architect and how he ends up building a city for his friends.

The Great Cheese Squeeze by Bryan Ballinger and Keith Lango

This is a fun book about a mouse that uses cheese to sculpt artwork.

Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliett

This is a new novel out that 4th and 5th grade level readers would enjoy. I read it and thoroughly enjoyed it!

       Katie and the Mona Lisa by James Mayhew

This is about a little girl who visits an art museum with her grandmother and “walks” into the painting "Mona Lisa" by Leonardo daVinci. Of course Katie ends up learning a lot through her adventures with Mona Lisa! 

       When Pigasso met Mootisse by Nina Laden

My favorite and I use with 2nd grade classes. It is about the artist Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse and how they met and became friends.

Art Dog by Thacher Hurd.

Another favorite! I use this at 1st grade. It’s about Arthur Dog who is a guard dog at an art museum, but in his secret life he is a wonderful artist that gets discovered in the end. It has beautiful illustrations! 

Getting to Know the World’s Greatest Artist by Mike Venezia

This is a series of 26 art books. Each one talks about the life and art of famous artists. Some of the artists are Georgia O’Keffee, Pablo Picasso, Leonardo daVinci, just to name a few.

The First Starry Night by Joan Shaddox Isom

This beautifully illustrated book is about the artist Vincent VanGogh and the little friend he meets that lives below him.

The Year with Grandma Moses by Nikola-Lisa

This is a fun book that tells the life of Anna Marie Robertson, also known as Grandma Moses, and how she became an artist beginning at the age of 70!
