The class brainstormed ideas of charities they could
donate to in place of having a gift exchange. In a
very close vote, the Pujols Family Foundation was
selected by the class as the recipient of their
donations. The Special Olympics of Illinois was a
close second. We decided, if we raise enough
money, that both charities would be given part of the
money.
Donations are strictly voluntary. I've encouraged the
students to at least donate the amount they would
have spent on a gift for a class gift-exchange.
However, I know some will want to do more, and
that's okay too.
Students can bring donations any time between now
and Thursday morning. During our class party
Thursday afternoon we'll announce our grand total!
Cash donations are fine ... and if you'd like to write a
check and want the tax benefit, you can make your
checks out to the Pujols Family Foundation. If you'd
like some of the funds to go to Special Olympics of
Illinois, please make your check to that charity
accordingly.
The Pujols Family Foundation is a charitable
organization started by Albert Pujols and his wife.
They support two major causes: an orphanage in the
Domincan Republic and Down Syndrome. You can
find out more about the charity by visiting
their website.
