We took our science tests yesterday ... the students
are bringing them home today. I wanted to share a
few quick items with you about them...
First, overall the class did very well, considering it
was the first science test of the year and the
content covered was pretty specific and new to
many. More than half the class earned an A or B.
Secondly, the test was actually out of 33 points, but
I credited each student 3 points for question
difficulty/benfit of the doubt, something I commonly
do on a test like this. So their score is actually given
out of 30 instead of 33. Sometimes I'll offer a bonus
question to make up for that, but in this case, I just
gave them all a slight bump in the score.
Finally, students may earn half-credit back for any
problems they correct in ink by Monday. They may
use their book to help them -- but this is totally
optional. I offer this as I want students to learn the
content, even if it takes a few more attempts before
they get it.
