Fifth Grade Plans Two Amazing
Experiences!
We have two special trips planned
this year for the 5th graders! Both of them will allow the students to
experience what we have been learning in a hands-on, exciting way.
Both
trips will occur in the spring, but we need to start planning now! The first
trip will be to the Challenger Learning Center. Each class will
participate in a half-day simulation, experiencing mission control and life in a
space station. We will train for a few weeks in class to learn our jobs so we
can have a successful mission. It’s truly an amazing experience.
The
second will be a trip to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
We’ll take charter buses on this trip to Springfield, and it will be a good wrap
up of what we have learned this year in social studies. It’s also a nice way for
the students to conclude their elementary school years. There are several
exciting and interactive displays there, and we believe the entire trip will be
a wonderful experience for the children.
More details about these trips
will come home in newsletters and as the need arises.
Right now one of the most
important issues regarding these trips is funding. In order to cover the cost of
these special experiences, we will be participating in a Kathryn-Beich
Fundraiser. We are encouraging 100% participation in this fundraiser. We
want the students to feel like they have some ownership in these special trips
and have “earned” the privilege to go.
Our costs for the trips will be
approximately $50 per student. This will cover all costs associated with both
trips. Kathryn-Beich will give us 50% of what we sell. Therefore, each student
needs to sell $100 to cover his or her cost of $50 for the trip. This should be
pretty easy to do as there are several great items in the catalog and there are
no conflicting fundraisers at the school. Your out-of-town friends and family
can even order online now (details below).
A couple important items and dates
- The fundraiser will run from
now until October 19. All materials need to be turned in by the 19th!
- Students should not go
door-to-door, but focus on family, friends, neighbors, etc.
- Students should collect
payment AT THE TIME OF SALE. Checks should be made out to Prairieland.
- Please be sure to fill out
the forms completely and accurately.
- All items ordered will be
delivered BEFORE THANKSGIVING. This should give you plenty of time if the
items are for holiday gifts!
- To invite people to order
online, go to
www.kathrynbeich.com
- click on the “PARENTS
REGISTER HERE” section
- enter our school’s PIN #
1671953 and follow the steps.
- You can then send e-cards
to friends and family so they can easily participate.
We’re looking forward to great
experiences this spring! Information about chaperones will come home from
teachers later in the year ... we won’t know any specifics about our need or
numbers until the spring.
