Course Description: This class is a comprehensive introduction of Health principles designed for the promotion of healthy life-choices and illness prevention.

Course Goal/Rationale:  Students will be able to understand the principles of health promotion and the prevention and treatment of illness and injury.  Students will understand human body systems and factors that influence growth and development.  Students will also learn to promote and enhance health and well-being through the use of effective communication and decision-making skills.

Duration: 6 week rotation within the Physical Education program.

Grading Scale:  A=90-100,  B=80-89, C=70-79, D=60-69, F=59 and below

Coursework Policy:  Students are responsible for handing in assignments on the date specified by the teacher.  If a student misses a class period, it is the responsibility of the student to see the teacher to receive missed assignments.  If the student knows he/she will be absent before the actual absence, the student should contact the teacher to receive the work that will be given in class.

Class Discussion and Group Work:  A large portion of my class time is spent having discussion time as well as working with small groups.  I ask that each student contribute to these discussions and give their input in group work.  A participation grade is part of the Health grade and the students will receive a rubric for the grading of participation.

Tests:  There is a test given at the end of the Project Oz portion of the class as well as at the end of the Health rotation.  These tests are important, but not the only grades taken in this class.

Extra Credit:  I do not give extra credit.  I ask that you hand in work on time, participate in class, and do your best!  If you do all of these things, you will pass.  Anything better than passing is up to how hard you are willing to work!

Cheating Policy:  Any student caught cheating will receive a zero on the coursework involved and will be turned in to the office.

Required Materials: Writing utensil, paper, and a folder should be brought to every class.
