                 The Air Age

The first world war hastened (or made faster) the airplane industry leading into the 1920's. Because of the need of planes for WWI, planes became stronger and more dependable in the early 1920's. With the invention of the airplane people were able to do something only kids would dream of: Fly.

The Years After War

With the first world war coming to an end, aviators came back to a depressing economy in the U.S. Most were unemployed and had little money from the army. So most became what most called barnstormers. Barnstormers were pilots (mostly from the army) that would fly from place to place and perform tricks for money. They would also take 1 passenger for a little extra money. People from the country loved to come out and watch the pilots do loop-the-loops. Would you like to fly in a plane going upside down? I think that would be cool.

The Planes of Today

Planes have come extremely far from the old propeller planes in the 1920's. Today planes use jet engines and can go speeds so much faster. Military aircraft in the 1920's used to carry a light machine gun. Now they have homing missiles and a series of heavy machine guns placed on their wings and nose. Today and probably right now people are researching new engine, weapon, and plating ideas!
