Babe Ruth's Life

Babe Ruth's life was a hard during his childhood.  His parents hardly ever spent any time with him and his siblings.  His dad worked as a bartender for many years and his mother worked at a family tavern.  At age seven he was sent to an orphanage called St. Mary's Industrial school for boys, then signed to Xaverian Brothers who ran the orphanage school. Babe was first introduced to baseball by his brother Mathias who was always good at baseball.

               Babe Ruth's Troubles

Babe Ruth got into trouble on and off the field. For example in 1922 Babe got suspended for participating in a prohibited barnstorming tour. Also in 1921 he got suspended and fined $5,000 for running off the field during a game to chase a fan who said a comment that he did not like. In addition to that he also had bad habits. He drank too much, ate too much, gambled too much, and lost lots of money doing, and even went to night clubs, and last drove to fast. But he promised to change that all when NY state senator Jimmy Walker asked Babe Ruth to set a better example for people at a baseball writers' association dinner. Next Babe Ruth stood up in tears and promised he would. But he continued to eat too much. One time when he got hungry on the way home from a game, he stopped and got 12 hotdogs and 8 bottles of soda. From this he got stomach problems that were so bad that the doctors had to operate.
