Co-Presidents’ Report – There is a list of open
committee positions. We may have a box tops person to fill that
position. The fall fundraiser was a team effort by the officers
last year. We are looking for someone to take that on for the
fall. Our yearbook photographer will be leaving us as well.
There was a sign-up sheet passed around for positions that
needed to be filled. The Sampsons are not committing to the
float for the upcoming year.
Treasurer’s Report – Melissa Traum reported
that we made close to $2000. There may be some outstanding
receipts but we haven’t paid for spirit wear or Scrips yet.
Teachers have the rest of this month for their wish list
requests as well.
Principal’s Report - Shelly Erickson said that
FFN was successful. Lamey’s retirement party is going to be from
2-3:30 and instead of a cake we are going to have cookies. That
way you don’t need plates, forks, etc. and will have it in the
multi-purpose room. Parents can come in from 3-3:30 then. The
movie trip has all but 63 kids going. It’s not supposed to rain
and the route is set taking the construction into consideration.
The theatre is ready for everyone. Parents are welcome to come.
Family Game Night, title 1, had its last program in October.
It’s a packed time of year but we will have it again for 5:30-7
on May 19th. The play-day is May 28th and the extra day for rain
is May 29th. The 29th is the last full day of school so we will
send back report cards on that Friday and not on June 2nd.
Normally we do not do so but this year we are. Mr. Chaplin said
there will be 10 stations and teachers sign up for the stations.
There are about 20 groups of students and 8 or 9 TAs and we need
around 30 volunteers to help out. It takes a lot of people to
help out. The last couple of years it went well. Reading scores
are coming in and accessing for the last time. K, 1 and 2 are at
grade level, about 70 percent. We are going to keep working on
it. School improvement plan won’t change much for next year.
Talent show is the last Wed of that week. DiAnn Naden said on
the Unit 5 website there was a list of retirements and we may
want to have Mrs. Lamey added. Mrs. Erickson will look into that
and attended the retirement dinner. She said it was a nice
evening at the Bone Student Center.
Family Fun Night Report – Melanie Johnson had
to leave as soon as it was over due to having surgery. The
baskets and the night went well. The concessions went great!
Chris Nichols thought it went really well. We had a couple of
hiccups but overall it was a good night. We maybe needed a few
more people and sold out of hot dogs just at the last 5 minutes.
The food went well. The extra candy was purchased by the high
school. It has been a 2 year commitment for FFN. The Nadens are
taking it under consideration. It is a lot of work but it worked
out really well with DiAnn and the volunteers. DiAnn was so
pleased with the teachers and the volunteers. All of the parents
recognized that. The teachers were super! All of the prizes and
games are ready and organized for next year.
Hospitality – Remember that lunch is Wednesday
and breakfast is Friday for the teachers. Just bring the soup or
whatever food you are making into the office. Angie Stoewer
contacted parents for lunch and breakfast for teacher
appreciation week. The power situation in the lounge is a small
concern with a lot of crock pots and it keeps blowing fuses. The
electrician was in today so some will be in the kitchen. That
way they can keep them heated until lunchtime. Angie will be
here between 10:30 and 11 to set up. No individual gift for each
mailbox, it’s not as personal but hopefully it’s understood. We
stocked the cart with coffee, etc. The staff got drinks and a
treat and soaps and lotions and stuff. Friday is a certificate
to Fridays to be won.
Restaurant Fundraising – Thank You cards to
sign from Parkside PTO for Noodles, Meatheads and Monicals.
Kathy Berry is going to follow-up and Tuesday, May 12th is
Monicals. Next year would like to do it twice, Meatheads once,
Noodles twice and Monicals twice as well as possibly Jean’s ice
cream, Carl’s and Cold Stone Creamery. Kathy will check into
those.
Playground – meets as soon as we are done here
for a few minutes. Shelly did not hear back about space. It’s a
bad time of year to e-mail people.
Assemblies - Friday Pinocchio prairie fire
theatre & it’s a great assembly.
PBIS basket drawing is tomorrow at lunchtime and Friday we will
sort the last entries & have the drawing after the assembly.
Spirit Wear – comes in next week and will be
delivered the first part of next week. The orders come all
bagged and sorted by student and classroom. Mr. Simpson is great
about doing that for us, Julie Workman said. No problems unless
some checks don’t clear. She will plan fall spirit wear sometime
this summer for fall.
Yearbooks come at the end of the year and will be send home
close to the end of school.
There will be No school kits this year. We will need volunteers
in August for school registration for August 6th from 3-7pm.
Subway will donate a 5 foot sub for teachers Jenny said so we
will plan for a Tuesday or Wednesday since teachers go out to
eat more on the other weekdays. We will send an e-mail out to
teachers.
Michelle Sampson is on the redistricting committee & they are
deciding on the elementary schools this month, then junior high,
then high school. June 16 & 17 is the community forum to hear
what they have come up with and to offer input. In July the
board meets and August 12th it will announce them. The two new
grade schools and one new junior high will be done for 2010 and
will plan to move kids in November. The redistricting is a
neighborhood school plan and it can be a good thing for
Parkside. The board meets in August so it will eliminate all
open attendance neighborhoods.
Mrs. Hernandez had her baby Gabrielle on Thursday. We have two
students in school that have lost parents this year and the PTO
& the teachers sent cards.
Motion to adjourn was made by Kathy Berry at 7:14 pm and
seconded by DiAnn Naden.
