If you are currently a committee chair and are planning to step

information too.

The Keys to Reading Incentive Program will culminate with a trip

All students earning every key will be eligible to attend. The
bus will leave at approximately 8:30 and they will return for
lunch. If you’d like to serve as a chaperone, please contact the
school for details.
Kindergarten Registration was on Thursday, May 1st. Over 30
kindergarteners were registered at that time for the 2008-2009
school year.
Possibly Fund Raising Opportunity: Mrs. Erickson was
approached by “Make-a-Mess”. They were soliciting the
possibility of our school using their premises for a fund
raising night. It would be held on a school night from
5:30-7:30. We would receive $1.00 per admission and 10% of the
snack bar take for the night. They would produce flyers to
promote the event and drop them off at school for distribution.
Talent Show – Slips for talent show try-outs are due on Friday,
May 9. The show will be on May 27.
Play Day – May 28 with a rain date of May 29
Final day of school (1 hour) will be on May 30.
Normal Public Library will be coming to do a brief assembly for
the kids about the library summer reading programs.
Prairie Fire Theater will visit Parkside on May 23rd at 9:00.
The first grade teachers received a Beyond the Books grant in
the amount of $1,100. The money will be used to purchase math
manipulatives and to take a trip to the Bloomington Cultural
Center.
Volunteer Breakfast will be held on May 21st from 7:30-8:30 AM.
If you’ve volunteered this year in any capacity at Parkside,
please feel free to stop by for breakfast. Thank you for making
Parkside a great school!
COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSONS REPORTS:
Scrips: Scrip Marketing survey yielded the following
results: 2% of the population use the scrip program. This
yielded sales this year of $5,000-$6,000. This resulted in a
profit of approximately $600 for the school
Fund Raising: Still in need of a Fund Raising chair for next
year. If you’re interested/willing to help with this crucial
committee, please contact a member of PTO
Spirit Wear: No report, but a question was raised about
the possibility of selling Spirit Wear items twice a year, once
in the fall and again in the spring.
Hospitality: This week is Teacher Appreciation Week.
Caring: Two cards were sent to teachers in the building
during the last month on behalf of PTO.
Box Tops: Box tops will be collected once more this year.
Please continue to send them in over the next few weeks.
Family Fun Night: The night was a success. Thanks to all
those who helped to organize and man the stations on the night.
The following profits were made:
$2,200 (Raffle - $ 614, Food - $ 116)
School Kits: There was an automated call on May 5th,
alerting school families to watch for the School Kidz Kits forms
that will come home. Please return them promptly.
Playground committee: Recommendation was made to create a
long-range plan next year with clear goals and amounts needed to
reach that goal. Mrs. Erickson suggested we select a few
companies to actually come to the school, draw up plans and
submit bids. Once we have a firm plan in place, those plans will
be passed along the families.
New Business:
There was a $45 donation made to the PTO on behalf of the
basketball team using the gym.
Young Author’s Breakfast expenses were reimbursed to the school
by PTO. ($243)
Additional gifts: the board voted to donate an additional
gift of $600 to the school discretionary fund. Mrs. Erickson
will use this money as needed between now and the end of the
school year to cover incidental expenses.
Assignment notebooks next year will be different. They will be
full year books, to be purchased at the beginning of the year
and used throughout the entire year rather than having two
smaller ones.
The meeting adjourned at 7:35
