Parkside Elemetary School
PTO Board Meeting Minutes
December 3, 2007
MEMBERS PRESENT:
Chris Nichols, Shelly Erickson, Kathy Berry, Michele Sampson,
Chris Rhodes, Donna Leamer, Julie Workman, LaNell Greenberg,
Becky Stachnik, DiAnn Naden, Lisa Swartz, Karl Sila
BOARD REPORTS:
Co-Presidents: Chris Rhodes/Diana
Cordero: Reminder about Santa’s Secret Workshop on Dec. 5th
1-5 PM in the Mulit-purpose Room. They are signing up volunteers
for 30 minutes increments, but longer shifts are appreciated.
Items will be inventoried before setting up. (11:00-1:00)
Volunteers will be setting up the merchandise from 1-2 PM. Bus
riders will shop from 2-3. Others will shop after school. Need
volunteers for all shifts. (Help shoppers, wrapping gifts,
guiding students through the process, cashiers.
Pick-up/Drop-off time: Considering options
to alleviate the traffic problems at those times. Suggestion was
made to investigate extending the parking lot on the east end of
the building and add another circle drive.
Nominating Committee: Kathy Berry, Chris
Nichols, Julie Workman, LaNell Greenberg (They will meet and
select individuals to invite/nominate to serve on the PTO board
next year.) They will meet preliminarily in January. If you have
an interest in serving on the board or committees, please
contact one of those committee members.
We are looking for ways to increase our PTO
meeting attendance. Possibly have some sort of more social
gathering (ice cream social is one possibility). We will create
a survey to poll parents on ways that we can increase
attendance.
Coliseum fund raising activity: Seemed much
harder than they implied for very little money on a weeknight
when they went for training. Seemed like a lot of responsibility
for very little income. We may reconsider on proceeding with
this project. ISU is another option. It’s less formal and they
offered 10%. The more people you have there the more money you
can make. They don’t have professionals there to help you. You
need to have someone who can turn on the soda machines,
etc...Again, it wouldn’t be a huge fund raiser. Need to do
multiple times to make considerable profits for both Coliseum
and ISU.
Referendum luncheon Dianna and Michele
attended. It will affect 15 schools, not just the high school
and elementary schools. Some schools will be getting
accessibility change, wipe boards, furniture, redistricting,
interior painting, etc... No district lines will be drawn up
until after February 5th. Attendance centers were
also promoted by Dr. Niehaus. The website:

Principal’s Report: Mrs. Erickson
said that Skyward Family Access has been turned on. If you need
your password, contact Heidi in the office. She has that
information on file. Teachers select what you will be able to
see.
Friday, she talked about the business
manager for the school. Meeting on December 7th (Mrs.
Erickson, Mrs. Aper, Mrs. Purcell, Michele Sampson and Heidi
will attend.)
Continuing the push on reading achievement.
She is talking with Kurt Swearingen on Title One. Kids got root
beer floats for their reading key on Friday.
The K-1 music teacher broke her ankle and
she will be rescheduling the music program. The 4-5 graders
program will go on as planned.
We are trying to collect items for the
troops. Should have received handout last week.
Next meeting will be on January 14th
at 6:30
COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSONS REPORTS:
Scrips: Orders are doing really
well. Taking orders until Wednesday, December 5th.
Secret Santa Shop: Wednesday, Dec.
5. (One day only this year.) Sale hours are 2:00-5:00.
Room Parent Coordinator: Winter
parties still need party volunteers. Miss White, Mrs. Arendell,
Mrs. Burger, Mrs. Purcell, Mrs. Goldman...still need help.
Caring: A staff member had a death
in the family and a plant was sent.
Box Tops: Received a note in the
mail that our tops have been processed and the check will be
sent directly to the school. It should arrive before the 15th
of the month.
CAC Members: Lisa Swartz reported
the following on the referendum. She was asked to serve on the
architectural workshop committee. From that she was asked to
serve on the referendum committee. School district cannot be
formally involved, must be an independent group promoting it.
The committee is made up of 4 chairs and 4 sub-committee chairs.
Time frame is short: Primary is February 5th.
