BOARD REPORTS:
Co-Presidents: Chris welcomed the assembly. He announced
that we will need a new chairperson for Market Day next year.
There was a possible lead that will be followed up by a PTO
member.
We will be hosting a playground clean-up day on May 17th
beginning around 9:30-10:00 AM. Elizabeth Tomera’s Cub Scout den
will assist with the clean-up in a school/community partnership
project. We will be shoveling gravel off of the sidewalks and
other various maintenance tasks.
The following slate of officers will be presented for approval
for the 2008-09 school year:
Co-presidents: Jenni Demosthenes, Elizabeth Tomera
Recording Secretary: Jennifer Barlow
Treasurer: Melissa Traum
Principal’s Report: Mrs. Shelly Erickson –
The 1-3 teachers are continuing to facilitate the Reading A-Z
program. 2nd grade is pretty much up and going and 1st and 3rd
are hoping to be able to hit the ground running next year. It is
a web-based program with leveled readers. The levels run from A
to Z and show growth of children’s reading. Preliminary results
are very positive.
The Keys to Reading Incentive Program will culminate with a trip
to the Normal Theater. The date is May 16th and the movie is TBA.
All students earning every key will be eligible to attend.
The week of March 31-April 4 Mrs. Erickson was job shadowed by a
SAM representative (Schools Administrative Manager). The
gentleman that came to Parkside was a retired principal with 29
years of experience. He took data on Mrs. Erickson’s time spent
in managerial roles vs. educational roles. The data will be used
as part of a program to help administrators be able to spend
more time in the classroom as educational leaders.
Happy Feet (Hip Hop Dance Instruction) will be added to the
reward cart.
As a follow up to the basketball incentive program, we are now
switching to baseball. The new PBIS incentive program is called
“Spring Training” and children will earn chances to play a ball
game with the teachers. Watch for more details on the All Stars.
Kindergarten Registration is on Thursday, May 1st. There will be
two sessions, one beginning at 9:00 and the other beginning at
1:00. The sessions last approximately 90 minutes each. Parents
will be given the option this year to pay their fees on the day
of registration. Forms will be available. She requested that
School Kidz Kit forms and information also be available to share
with parents who are interested in ordering kits for their
incoming kindergarteners.
COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSONS REPORTS:
Scrips: There will be no additional Noodle Nights this
year, but we’ll look toward planning two for next year. In
February, the scrip program earned $180 for our school and in
March the total was $100.
Spirit Wear: Julie Workman will check into having new
designs ready for approval at the May PTO meeting.
Market Day: We are still looking for a new Market Day
coordinator for next year. One possible lead was mentioned. If
you’d like to help with the Market Day program, please email
Marla Trisler or contact Chris Rhodes for details.
Newsletter: Articles for the newsletter are due on
January 15th.
Caring: No Report
Box Tops: The recent box tops class winner was Mrs.
Burger’s 2nd grade. They will collected again in May.
Family Fun Night: This year’s date is Friday, April 11.
Everything is coming together nicely. We are still in need of
donations for the Cake Walk. If you are able to donate items,
please send them to the school by Friday. There was a request
for TV’s and other valuable, movable items to be moved inside of
classrooms for the evening. The only classroom that will be used
the night of the carnival is room 22.
New Business:
Elizabeth Tomera asked for permission to store the flags for her
Boy Scout troop at the school. She was granted approval to store
them in the PTO closet.
There are still some teachers who haven’t spent their teacher
wish list money. Reimbursements will be made up through the
final day of school.
The meeting adjourned at 7:25
