BOARD REPORTS:
Co-Presidents: Chris welcomed and thanked everyone for
coming to the retirement for Mrs. Pennington and Mrs. Nave.
Family Fun Night went well. Thanks to all those volunteers.
Playground clean up day went well. Need to stay on it and do a
little each year to maintain and build on the progress we’ve
made.
Childcare at the meetings: it may be a little more
difficult to man and is asking if it is actually boosting
attendance. It is also a liability issue if a child is injured.
A parent may bring their own children or we could meet in the
IMC. Mrs. Erickson offered to allow the students to use the
computers in the IMC.
Treasurer’s Report: Michele Sampson – See fund raising
totals.
Secretary: Donna Leamer – No report.
Principal’s Report: Hired Jason Chaplain who will be the
new PE teacher. Miss Reed will be at the new kindergarten
position. Mrs. Legner was hired for a Title I reading position
at Fox Creek and so we will be hiring a new 4th grade teacher.
June 1st will be the date of the Talent Show, Play Day will be
on Monday, June 4th in the PM, June 5th is the rain date. If
both days are rainy, it will be canceled for this year.
A Beyond the Books Grant awarded to Mary Aper and Mrs. Sprau,
they received it for doing a puppet program.
The issue of stranger danger will not be addressed class by
class. A newsletter was sent home with children last Friday
about the incidents that were in the paper. James Love was
arrested for incidents with a minor. Dr. Chapman sent out a
letter to parents. James Love will no longer be subbing in Unit
5.
Approximately 35 students registered at the Kindergarten
Registration that was held on May 3rd.
COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSONS REPORTS:
Scrips: Will look into coordinating “Noodles Night” with
scrip sales. Noodles manager has offered to set up 5 dates for
next year.
Fund Raising: Butterbraids $1400, Market Day $1894 , No
Hassle Fund raiser $1260, Fall fund raiser $3769, Family Fun
Night made over $1400 and the Basket Raffle $800, Boxtops $186,
. Suggestion was made to work concessions at the Arena for the
hockey games. We may try to coordinate a “Noodles Night” with
scrip sales, possibly at Open House for Next year.
Market Day: You have until Saturday at noon to order.
Pick up will be next Thursday. Market Day will continue through
the summer. Pick up will be from 4-5 on those days. Need a
replacement chairperson for the fall.
Hospitality: Carl’s Ice Cream coupons today for Teacher
Appreciation, potted plants, lunch on Wednesday, Raffle tickets,
breakfast, water bottles with the Parkside logo. We expanded the
hospitality budget to cover the luncheon.
Family Fun Night: Went well. Volunteers worked from
3:00-9:00. Feedback was very positive for the most part. We may
tweak the hand stamps for next year. Adjust prices possibly for
multiple siblings. Maybe offer some healthier choices (fruit) at
the concessions. Maybe add a “pie in the face” event. We made
over $2000 and the basket raffle made around $750.
Playground Repairs: Thanks for helping with clean up day. Now we
need to stay focused on continuing to improve and possibly add
more equipment. We may be able to get the city involved. Would
also like to have the children have some input on the process
and possibly link it to fund raising to motivate them and get
them more involved. The city kicked in about $8,000 for
equipment and also donated all of the installation. There are
pieces that need replacing (jungle gym). Mrs. Erickson would
like to work towards installing more pieces in the lower
playground area.
NEW BUSINESS:
No new business
The meeting adjourned at 7:30.
