This year, for the first time, Special Olympics Illinois has named a Project UNIFY Champion School in the Northern, Central and Southern regions. Parkside Elementary has been named this year's Project UNIFY Central Region Champion School!!!!!!
We have been officially endorsed as a Project UNIFY school since it began during the 2008-2009 school year when we were one of only three schools in Illinois asked to pilot the program. Special Olympics sports opportunities and other programs promoted by them including Project UNIFY, the RESPECT Campaign and Young Athletes have all been extremely successful at Parkside because of the commitment, dedication and continued support of our staff, students, parents and administration!
We will be recognized for this award and presented with a banner on April 24th at our Special Olympics regional track and field event at Normal West High School during Opening Ceremonies.
Come out for the Ceremonies as well as to support our Special Olympics Athletes during this event!
Unit 5 has begun the process of transitioning to Standards Based Grading in the elementary grades. Teachers and administrators have been engaged in study and research around Standards Based Grading and many teachers have begun to shift their assessment practices to align to this type of grading and reporting. In the 2016-2017 school year, teachers will begin to report some grades in the Standards Based Grading format, and we will have full implementation in 2017-2018. There will be opportunities for parents to learn more about this shift in grading and reporting. For more information, click here
