America
Reads
Unit
5 is proud to be involved with the America Reads Challenge.
Illinois State University is again sponsoring work/study
students who are education majors in a project that is part of
the national America Reads initiative. These students are
working in our elementary schools to support children who are at
risk of reading failure.
Teachers
and principals associated with the program report that our
children make positive gains when they are paired with America
Reads tutors. Not only is this an opportunity for Unit 5
students to receive help with their reading skills, but it is a
partnership where children can work one-on-one with a supportive
tutor.
Unit 5
will continue to work with ISU to employ as many of these
students as possible to help meet children's literacy needs.

"The
America Reads Challenge is a grassroots national campaign
that challenges every American to help all our children
learn to read, including English Language Learners and
students with disabilities. America Reads sparks
collaborations between educators, parents, librarians,
business people, senior citizens, college students, and
community and religious groups." |
