Student Registration Information for 2008 - 2009

 


KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

Entrance Age Requirements


Children reaching the age of five (5) on or before September 1 will be eligible for enrollment in kindergarten.

Registration Times

Children will be registered at the school they will attend according to the following schedule:

  • Brigham, Fairview, Fox Creek, Glenn, Grove, Hoose, Oakdale, Parkside, Pepper Ridge, Prairieland,
    Sugar Creek Schools: 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
  • Carlock School: 9:00 a.m.
  • Northpoint School: 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
  • Towanda School: 1:00 p.m.
  • Hudson: 6:30 p.m.
Parents should plan to bring their incoming kindergarten student with them for registration activities.


Half day or Full Day Kindergarten


The Unit 5 Kindergarten program is a full-day instruction program scheduled from 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Parents who believe their child is not ready for a full-day experience may elect to end their child’s
kindergarten day at 11:15 a.m. (October 3, 2008 is the last day for final decisions regarding half-day or
full-day placement).

Birth Certificates


A certified birth certificate must be presented on registration day or the first day of school.

Immunizations and Health Exams


The Illinois State Board of Education requires all students to meet immunization and health, eye and dental exam requirements specified in the Illinois Compiled Statutes, Chapter 105, Act 5, Section 5/27-8.1. Proof of meeting these requirements must be filed by students entering public school for the first time.

Entrance Age Requirements

Children reaching the age of five (5) on or before September 1 will be eligible for enrollment in kindergarten. Children reaching the age of six (6) on or before September 1 will be eligible for enrollment in first grade.


Immunizations, Health, and Dental Exams

A student’s parent(s)/guardian(s) shall present proof that the student received a health examination and the immunizations against, and screenings for, preventable communicable diseases, as required by the Illinois Department of Health, within one year prior to: 1) entering kindergarten or first grade; 2) entering fifth and ninth grades; and 3) enrolling in an Illinois school, regardless of the student’s grade including nursery school, special education, Headstart programs operated by elementary or secondary schools, and students transferring into Illinois from out of state or out of country). All Illinois children in kindergarten, second, and sixth grades are required to have an oral health examination by a licensed dentist and to submit proof prior to May 15 of the school year. School dental examinations must be completed within 18 months of the deadline.


Birth Certificates

A certified birth certificate must be presented on registration day or the first day of school for: 1) all kindergarten children and 2) all students new to Unit 5.

Proof of Residence


Proof of residence, as required by Unit 5 Board Policy 7.60 Residence, must be presented for students enrolling in Unit 5 for the first time. Board Policy 7.60 is available on the District’s website (www.unit5.org).


For additional information regarding registration or opening of school, parents are encouraged to contact the school their child will attend or the Unit 5 District Offices.

Starting and Ending Times of School Day

The starting and ending times of the school day for 2007-2008 are as follows:

Early Childhood/Pre-K 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

12:15 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.
 
Elementary 8:15 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Junior High 8:35 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.
High School 7:55 a.m. – 3:10 p.m.
