REQUIRED UNIFORM

The uniform for all students in Physical Education classes consists of ONE pair of black shorts, a GREY or ORANGE shirt (no t-shirt or any other type of shirt should be worn underneath), gym socks, and GYM shoes.  You are required to mark the back of your shirt with your last name.  It is advisable to mark you shorts and shoes with your name as well.  You may not borrow clothes from a friend.  Shorts must be worn at the waist, and the length of the shorts will follow the schools policy.  If you want to wear a sweatshirt and/or sweat pants during class (OUTSIDE ONLY) because of cold weather, you may CARRY them to the gym at the beginning of the class.  After roll is taken, you may put your sweat clothes on.  Blue jeans and jackets are NOT considered sweat clothes.  We go OUTSIDE first and fourth nine weeks, when the temperature is 40 degrees or above!!!  Be prepared!!  You are required to dress in proper P.E. uniform each day.  An exception to this will be allowed if the circumstances would make it difficult for you to dress.

POLICY FOR DRESS CUTS

If students do not have their PE uniform they may borrow clothes or participate in their street clothes.  Which ever the student decides, they will receive a dress cut (NO DRESS).

1.   The first time a student receives a dress cut, during a nine-week grading period, they will receive a warning.

2.  The second time a student receives a dress cut, during the same grading period, they will lose 10 points, and get a written warning to be sent home and have a parent sign.

3.  The third time a student receives a dress cut, during the same grading period, that student will receive a 30-minute detention and will lose 10 points.

4.  The fourth time a student receives a dress cut, during the same grading period that student will receive a SATURDAY supervised study, and they will lose 10 points.  If a student goes beyond their fifth, the assistant principal will deal with them, and they will receive an “F” for the quarter.

LOCKERS AND LOCKS

A locker will be issued to you for the purpose of storing your P.E. clothes.  Each student will be assigned a locker and must keep it locked with a combination lock.  Do not show or give your combination to anyone unless it is the person with whom you are sharing the locker.  You are not required to share a locker.  If you choose to share a locker, pick someone from your class that you can trust, you will need to give that person your combination.  You must keep your locker LOCKED at ALL times.  Locker checks will be conducted as needed.  Respect for the facility and for the property of others is essential.  You will be held responsible for the willful damage or destruction of personal or school property.  Make sure lockers are ALWAYS LOCKED.  WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR CLOTHING OR OTHER THINGS YOU PUT IN YOUR UNLOCKED LOCKER.  Combination locks must be purchased from the office.  No outside locks will be allowed.  Any non-school issued locks are subject to be cut off.

EXCUSES FROM P.E. ACTIVITIES

Temporary excuses may be obtained by bringing your teacher a note from your parents.  We will only allow ONE PARENT NOTE per nine weeks; otherwise your parent must call in to the school.  A parent note will only excuse you TWO DAYS from participation.  If you are on a medical note, you will be asked to walk, or do what you can. If you are out for an extended period of time you will need to talk with your PE teacher to find out what you will need to do.  You will not receive any points for those days you are not participating in PE.

ABSENCES

For every unit day you miss you need to write a one page paper.  For every fitness day you miss you need to make up that day.  When you are back at school, talk with your PE teacher to find out when and how you can make up that fitness day.  Make-up work is YOUR responsibility.  If work is NOT made up, points will be deducted and your grade will be affected.  Only school related absences are excused and no papers need to be written.

FITNESS DAYS

Each individual is expected to “DO THE BEST HE/SHE POSSIBLY CAN.”  In order for the student to reach his or her maximum fitness level the following rules will be implemented:

1.  Run alone—not with a group of friends or you will be asked to separate.  We may send students in different directions.

2.  The running pace must be acceptable to the instructor!!  “Shuffling your feet/Sliding your feet” is UNACCEPTABLE.

3.  Heart rate should exceed an average of 140-150 beats per minute during

exercise in order to reach target heart rate.

4.     Students are responsible for having inhalers with them or using them PRIOR to running or activity.  Every student must have their shoelaces tied, in double knots if necessary, prior to running to ensure their safety.  This will also allow them to “do the best they can.”

Failure to abide by the above expectations will result in POINT REDUCTION and consequences ranging from VERBAL REPRIMAND to OFFICE REFERRAL.
