Music Notes

Welcome back to school!

Fifth Graders:  You will be choosing an instrument to play if you are interested in playing an instrument.  Please look for a letter to be sent home on Thursday, August 23!  If you accidentally lose or misplace this letter, you can easily find this information on the Unit 5 Website  www.unit5.org .  It should be posted and up by Monday, August 27! 

All students in second through fifth grade need to bring a 3 ring/2 pocket folder to music class daily. This folder should have some lined paper in it.  It should have a sharpened pencil tucked inside one of the pockets of the folder.  The student's name and room code should be clearly visible on the front cover of the folder. 

Attention Fourth Grade Parents:  Below is a copy of the recent recorder note I sent home with your student.  If your student did not bring one home, please feel free to print this and return it to school with the money in a sealed envelope with your student's name and room code on the outside!  All money is due by Sept. 14!

Dear Parents:

We are starting a recorder program for the fourth graders to enhance their music reading abilities. I hope that by giving the students a positive, enjoyable learning experience, they will be encouraged to develop an interest in music.  Each student will need to have their own individual recorder to be able to practice playing the notes that we learn in class.  Recorders come in a variety of wonderful colors—so be sure your child indicates his or her color choice below.

Macie Publishing Company, the publisher of the recorder materials we will be using, has some special pricing available.  The recorder will be needed for classroom use.  A Play Along CD contains background accompaniments for all the songs in the Method Book and makes it fun for students to practice.  The CD Package which includes the Method Book, Recorder and CD is a great value at $9.95.  There is also the option to purchase just the recorder for $4.50, which is the option I would recommend.
