5-14-08 vs. Normal Community Ironmen
Vaughn leads Wildcats past the Ironmen Kyle Vaughn led the Normal West Wildcats to a 7-1 victory over the Normal Community Ironmen with both his arm and his bat. He pitched six strong innings, getting the complete game win and chipped in two base hits to lead the hitting attack as well. The Ironmen broke out in front 1-0 in the top of the 2nd inning with an unearned run, but the Wildcats answered with five of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take charge of the game. Brandon Zwaga reached base on an infield error to lead off the inning and moved to 2nd base on a walk to Zach Boicken. After an out, Brandon Herzog reached 1st base to load them up on a wild pitch strikeout. Adam Seifert drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly to left field and Kyle Vaughn brought in the second with an RBI single. Erik Sipes cleared the bases with a fly ball to right field that just cleared the fence. The Wildcats extended the lead in the 3rd inning when Jacob Null led off with a single and moved to 2nd base on a hit by Brandon Zwaga. After Zach Boicken moved the runners up with a sacrifice bunt, Brandon Herzog brought Null in with a single to center field. The Wildcats tacked on an insurance run in the 6th inning when Sipes walked, stole second, and came around to score on a throwing error by the Ironmen. Kyle Vaughn had the Ironmen under control throughout the game. He allowed only the one unearned run on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts. The Wildcats finish the season with a record of 18-11, including wins over each of the intercity schools. Congratulations on a very good season.
