4-24-08 vs. Normal Ironmen
Wildcats lose a pitchers duel to the Ironmen The Wildcats lost a classic pitchers duel on a windy and sprinkly day at Normal Community High School 2-0. Kyle Vaughn pitched a great game for the Wildcats, holding the Ironmen to only three hits and no runs through five innings. In the bottom of the sixth, an infield error by the Wildcats followed by a stolen base and an outfield error put Brent Turner on third with no outs. A Michael Osnowitz single up the middle through a drawn-in infield broke the scoreless tie. A Brandon Taylor triple added an insurance run for the Ironmen. Vaughn had the Ironmen handcuffed despite a stiff wind blowing out. He struck out five and walked only one batter. The Wildcats also turned a nice 4-6-3 double play behind him to end the 4th inning. Zach Boicken helped keep the game scoreless in the fifth with a running over the shoulder catch in right as well. The Wildcat bats were shut down by Ironmen hurler Brandon Taylor. After starting the game off with walks to Adam Seifert and Kyle Vaughn, the Wildcats could not get anything going in the 1st inning. Zach Boicken, Kody Hill, and Trey Rogers each singled in the 4th, 5th and 6th innings respectively, but the Wildcats could not push them around for a run. The Wildcats fall to 10-4 on the season, but get a chance to swing the bats again tomorrow with a 4:30 game at home against the Bloomington Raiders.
