Wildcats bats erupt to beat the U-High Pioneers

The Normal West Wildcats found themselves in a tight game after six innings on a perfect spring day for baseball at One Normal Plaza.  Leading 7-5, the Wildcats broke the game open with 10 runs in the 7th inning and went on to win 17-5.  The win lifts the Wildcats record to 10-3.

The Wildcats were hitting the long ball very well throughout the game, but with no outfield fence, many home runs at home were stand up triples.  Erik Sipes bomb in the third inning after an Adam Seifert leadoff triple, though, was so far that he circled the bases for his fifth home run of the season.  Spectators think it may have gone through the goal posts in center field.  Adam Seifert, Kyle Vaughn, Jacob Null, Brandon Zwaga and Trey Rogers all had long balls for a triple.

Brandon Zwaga led the Wildcat attack with a double, single and triple while Trey Rogers also had a triple and two singles.  Adam Seifert and Erik Sipes contributed two hits each.

Brandon Herzog had a very solid outing for the Wildcats, pitching the first five innings to collect the win.  He allowed five runs on seven hits, striking out four, walking three and hitting three batters.  He also got a nice Rogers to Sipes to Guest 4-6-3 double play in the 2nd inning.  Cody Auer came on in the 6th inning and finished out the game with two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks.

The Wildcats face crosstown rival Normal Community on Thursday at NCHS if the weather allows.  The Wildcats take a 10-3 record into the game while the Ironmen were 10-1 as of last weekend, so it should be a battle.
