4-15-08 vs. Lincoln Railsplitters
Railsplitters hand Wildcats a late inning loss, 8-7 The Lincoln Railsplitters rallied for 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to pull out a tight game on a sunny and breezy day at Lincoln High School. The Wildcats appeared to be in control of the game, but the Railsplitters strung together some bloopers and walks to take the lead and go on to retire the Wildcats in order in the 7th inning for the win. The Wildcats scored in 4 of the first 6 innings, but also left 10 runs on base during those innings. Jacob Null led the Wildcats with 3 hits and an RBI. Erik Sipes had 2 hits and 2 RBIs as well. The Wildcats scored most of their runs in the 4th inning when Trey Rogers and Alex Guest opened the inning with extra base hits, and Erik Sipes, Jacob Null and Brandon Herzog had hits later in the inning to plate four runs. Adam Seifert started on the hill for the Wildcats and gave up two unearned runs over the first 3 innings, allowing 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 4. Erik Sipes followed him to the mound and pitched the next 2 2/3. Ronnie Stephens relieved with two outs in the 6th and picked off the runner at 1st to end the inning. The Wildcats fall to 5-3, but hope to bounce back when they return to action tomorrow night at Mahomet-Seymour at 5:00.
