2008 Girls Soccer
By: Krysten Baietto and Nathan Kelsey
If you haven’t been down to the fields to watch a girl’s soccer game
this year, you are missing out! With great varsity and junior varsity
teams, plus a new fantastic coach, we expected nothing but greatness
from our girls, and they have delivered just that. Even though it might
be a hard task to live up to the expectations of last years 2007 amazing
soccer season, the girls this year are full of determination to keep
their victorious status. Last years team brought home the title of the
Big 12 conference championship, regional championship, sectional
championship, super-sectional champion ship, and Elite 8. The team this
year looks like they are going to bring home the same winning spirits
this season too.
Although the weather has been less than
favorable, that does not stop the team from vigorous practice in
preparation for their games. “Freezing or not, we will be out there
practicing,” Mr. Walker, the new coach and teacher at West, has said.
He adds new experience, strategies, and tactics to the team which has
indefinitely lead our girls to victory. Indeed it has worked, as our
girls stand undefeated and on their way to state.
Is it Mr. Walker’s fresh new skills
that have made the team so great? Jordan Becker’s amazing goalie
status, or a team as a whole? “I think being a goalie is a very
important role on the team, but to take all the credit isn’t fair. It’s
a team effort and we have all been playing great together.”
Well said from modest Becker, and she
makes an excellent point. The team undoubtedly works well together and
seems to have their eyes set on victory. You would be doing yourself a
favor to make it to one of these exciting games. Good luck girls, and
keep up the great work!
