On you marks, get set, go are familiar words to the Normal West Boys Track team. The Boys Track team is made up of all kinds of events arraying from the 55 meter dash to the 2 mile run. Shot put, high jump, and hurtles are also some of the other events. The boys are looking forward to an awesome season. The team has started there indoor season on February 2nd at the IVC invitational at the shirk center. The Boys will start their outdoor season on Thursday April 3 at Normal West. Their opponents will be Peoria and Metamora. The boys just recently won the Big 12 indoor championship. When I asked one of the team captains Reid Basting how he thought the boys we’re going to do this year he said The team has a lot of potential to do even better than last year as a whole team. We have a strong senior class, and I expect more people to go the state than in the last 4 years. Other captains on the team are seniors Jonny Kaufman, Steve Ross, and Jesse Holliger. Reid, Jonny, and Jesse all plan on running in college but have not decided where they are going yet.

The relay events to watch for are the 4x200 and the 4x400 ran by Seniors Reid Basting, Jonny Kaufman, Jesse Holliger, and junior Jerry Lewis. The 4x800 is also doing well which is run by all senior captains Reid, Jonny, Jesse, and Steve. Individual events to watch for are the 400 ran by Reid Basting. The 800 ran by Jesse Holliger. The mile ran by Jonny Kaufman and the 200 ran by Jerry Lewis. In the jumping events the long jump and the triple jump performed by Senior David Harris is another event to watch for. Even though junior Troy Walls is starting track later than the other boys due to basketball, the team still expects him to do very well in the hurtles and the high jump.

The Normal West boys track team is expecting one of their best years yet. Make sure you stop by and cheer the guys on. We hope you guys have a great season and we wish you the best of luck.
